What mudguards/fenders would fit a 2013 Trek 1.5 roadbike?

    Hi,

I have been trying to pick a set of mudguards for a 2013 Trek 1.5 roadbike, but I am struggling big time to find ones that will definitely fit online? There is quite a lot of conflicting information on whether SKS bluemels, chromoplastics or race blades would fit or not.

    Can any one here help?

    Thanks

Race blades or Crud road race will do the job, personally I'd go for race blades as the crud road race have been known to fall apart quite easily

Thanks for the reply. Are there different size raceblades? 700x23? Etc Are they difficult to set up on a bike?

They come in 18-23 and 23-32. The are alright to set up but can move about during a ride causing an annoying tyre rub. (I'm referring to the short ones - no experience of the full ones).

The cruds will give better coverage but, as Bikerbhoy has said, they tend to be fragile and in my experience, become brittle and crack at the joints. You'd be lucky to get a winter out of them. They can be a bit fiddly to set up and also tend to move about during rides.

I have a 2011 2.5 which is pretty much the same geometry as the OP's I think, I have Crud road racer 2s fitted which do the job well, the big caveat I would have with them is that the fit is extremely tight with 25mm tyres (GP 4Seasons), it's possible to get them not to rub but can be extremely fiddley and a few bumps along the road can shift things just enough to be annoying if not troublesome. I'm running 23mm GP4000s this winter and no such problem.

I've just fitted a set of SKS Bluemels to my ridley tempo frame. I'm running GP4000S 25s and 105 calipers. The clearance is fine at the front. The only issue I had was the caliper bracket on the back rubbed, so I took it off and drilled 2 small holes in the mudguard directly in line with the brake caliper mount bolt and used a cable tie to secure it to the caliper. They are rock solid once fitted and haven't moved. I got them here http://www.rosebikes.com/article/sks-bluemels-olympic-racer-35-mm-mudguard-set/aid:719219
Before the bluemels I had these fitted http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/road-track-bike/bike-parts-Zefal-Narrow-Guards-pair/ZEFAMUDR200 Exactly the same issue with the rear caliper mount, exactly the same solution. The one other problem I had with these ones was the the front one was slightly too wide to fit through the front fork without rubbing on the inside of the fork legs so i had to trim it at the edges where it went through the forks. The reason I changed to the bluemels was that the rear one broke at the back bottom edge when it got caught on a step getting it out of the garage, they are quite brittle. the bluemels seem a lot more flexible and less likely to snap in the same circumstances.

    Call Marrey bikes in Ballinrobe.

I use 28mm front and 25mm rear on road bike, so clearance is very tight. Fitted some type of raceblades, but they are only half a mudguard; they keep my back and feet dry though so hsppy out.

I forget the exact make though but Marrey bikes will know!

I have used these as an alternative to Raceblades. I find they are more adjustable as the mudguard can be moved up and down each stay by means of loosening a plastic nut. The front isint quite as long as a Raceblade but they will do the job as much as any non standard mudguard.

One tip id give is to wrap the contact points on your frame, with electrical tape or the like when using raceblades. Have had bother with them marking paint/wearing it totally away in places.

It's more complicated than i had hoped. I was using a set of SKS bluemels on a hybrid bike for commuting and I found them great.

Ideally I would prefer a fully fitted mudguard that covers the front wheel similar to the bluemells.

I was hoping someone here would have had the same bike and could confirm. My bike has a set of 700x23 gatorskin tyres.

Here's my Ridley with the bluemels fitted and a pic of the little mod on the rear caliper. I'd imagine if you're running 23's the rear caliper bracket will fit fine.

Deedsie - has your bike got mudguard eyelets? If it has then you'll have a much easier job. In my previous post I assumed we were talking about bikes with none.

Ya there are eyelets on the frame of the bike. Still no wiser as to what I should go for.

That's a very neat job with the cable tie Willy, your setup is exactly what I am after.

I'd say the 35mm bluemels will fit fine.
