Have you tried going through Sallins and Celbridge?

Assuming you want to continue to use the M50 toll, take the exit after Citywest onto the Outer Ring Road (R136). Follow it all the way to end. Turning right will take you along the N4 Lucan Road where you can then join the M50 by taking the slip road left after Liffey Valley.

It will be slow at peak times, but at least will avoid any unpredictable hassle at Newlands Cross.

You could come off the M7 at junction 7 (Kill), and head cross country, through Maynooth, and come in to Blanchardstown along the M3, but that will add at least another half hour onto your journey, and take you off the good roads. It does help you avoid the toll though.

Another alternative is to come off at J3 (Kingswood) and take off through Lucan, but that can be extremely busy during rush hour as well, and again is adding time to your already long commute.

You're probably best just playing around with Google maps and looking at the timings of alternate routes, bearing in mind that rush hour will add time onto each of those.

I'd stick with New lands cross as any good alternatives are going to be quite busy and will have the same delays due to the amount of extra traffic they are getting, just be aware of what is going on in front of you and get into appropriate lanes early etc.

Is this the route you mean http://goo.gl/maps/qmD4q It's more like 50 minutes without traffic but the queue into Maynooth in the mornings can add another 10 - 20 minutes if you hit it at the wrong time or just on a bad day.

Thats a handy road, easy into Blanch through Lucan that way as well.

Depending on time traffic through Lucan can be quite bad and then you have to cross the Clonsilla level crossing and there's schools in the area too.

Once you are past Woodies then you would be going against traffic and you dont have to go over the crossing at Clonsilla. You will get some traffic no matter which way you go.

Yeah but you're heading towards the girls school in Lucan and still have to cross the bridge. I'd head for the M50 once you get to Woodies you still have to cross the toll but should be much faster than trying to go through Lucan to Blanchardstown. It all depends what time the OP is passing and where in Blanch they're going.

If it was me, i would avoid the Naas road altogether and head via Clane and Celbridge and the back of Intel -Barberstown level crossing and left after Luttrelstown Golf club .

Thanks a mill. In work for 9 so hitting rush hour at peak time. Just fed up as it took 2 hours this morning (traffic backed up from Castlewarden).

Might try going into Maynooth and then Blanchardstown tomorrow. Suspect it might be worth it for my blood pressure!

    Sorry just saw this now!

What road would I take to avoid Naas Road?

It's messy to try get to Clane from the M7 though come off at Kill for Straffan and then follow Hilly's directions from Celbridge. The problem with all these routes is that the bridges over the Liffey are pinch points getting through Celbridge could be a pain too :(

Is this the route from Celbridge you mean Hilly? http://goo.gl/maps/g9kGR

You posted it above. You will get a bit of traffic no matter what route you will take but might be more free flowing than others .

I wouldnt get to Celbridge that way,but its handy looking . id get off at the M7 Business park and cut along the back road to sallins and Clane but its the way marked at the back of Intel and i would go the other side of westmanstown Golf club and back onto the marked route but go straight at the the castle and not go over Clonsilla Crossing. Left at Diswelstown and over the Rail bridge to the back of Power city..

I forgot about the back road from the M7 BP you could skip Sallins altogether and use the canal via the Leinster aqueduct it's real rat run stuff but worth it if traffic is going to be a disaster with the upgrade.

I think I read the new NX flyover would be ready by year end? With the full scheme completed around this time next year. Traffic should ease a lot when schools break...

It goes from 80-60-50 and is a notorious speed trap,so be careful with the right foot.

You could go to Rathcoole and then turn left onto the R120 left Newcastle. Go through Newcastle and then turn right onto the Peamount/Newcastle road (still the R120). Continue through Adamstown and turn right onto the N4. This will bring you to the M50 for Blanchardstown.

Monday morning was a fiasco for motorists heading inbound on the N7, according to Live Drive, and the journey times texted in. Roll on the evening, and John Neary on the evening Live Drive was shocked that the Naas Road outbound towards Newlands Cross was moving so well, which indeed it was. I cannot remember seeing it so clear at rush hour.

This morning, inbound seemed to be running a bit more smoothly, but imagine my annoyance at being stuck in a very slow moving traffic jam on Monastery Road in Clondalkin, which has not seen such volumes since before the new Red Cow layout was complete. This evening, there seemed to be heavier volumes outbound, but still nowhere near as bad as it has been all this time.

They improved the light sequence timing apparently.2 mins 45 seconds for green and 1 min 30 seconds for red.Plus I'd hazard a guess that a fair % of people tried alternative routes this morning which eased the congestion too.
