Boxes would mean the owner is one of those fanboys who owns all, but played none. Such a waste. At least these look like they've at least being played once.

All of mine are boxed and I play them. I'm not talking about any of that sealed, h-seam, vga graded crap.
Just some sexy Nintendo minty shiny cardboard porn.
Obviously it's an impressive collection and I was jesting (but only half).

eh just cause he doesn't have the boxes doesn't mean he's played them all at least once.

I find it hard to understand the reasoning behind your comment. I would prefer to have a smaller collection boxed than endless rows of games. As much as I like Nintendo consoles there must be a fair amount of games on those shelves that don't deserve to be played.

People collect for different reasons. The definition of 'a waste' is completely subjective.

Folks who collect fully boxed games and rarely play them can be seen as videogame historians. They're collecting and cataloging for future generations. It's nice to know there are people like that around preserving gaming history - while everyone else rips the packaging open with their teeth :pac:

I know some people go for full collections, this is great if you have the time, money and space to do so. For me personally I prefer to collect complete games over time, slowly building a collection. But for sure there are a wide range of different type of collectors, while some people are happy to pay stupid money for vga graded games  there are others who don't pay for anything, they prefer the r4 or cdr edition.

I think the most important thing is that you enjoy your games in a way that makes you happy, whether it's playing them, looking at them or as Oisin said preserving them for future generations. As much as I hate to say it the whole digital download thing is really gathering pace now. At least with the older games you can collect them and do as you like with them, we take for granted being able to flick the switch on consoles maybe twenty or thirty years old and they power up first time. What's the chances of finding a working 360 or ps3 in ten years time to do the same.

Now is the time to get GameCube games for nothing if anyone is planning their own collection any time soon :)

Games $1.99 or less second hand at my local games emporium. Consoles $20. Tis great

That's why you wait 2 years and buy a couple brand new for a pittance :)
