Trustworthy/Recommended Mechanics for NCT service? (Dublin)

Hey, have an NCT coming up on my 07' VW Golf. It needs a good service too, been couple years. I've used a garage for years but it was a family member of what is now an ex-gf, so its a no go for obvious reasons.

Don't really know any good mechanics/garages and just wondering is there well known ones around the south-west Dublin area that are trustworthy(that wont rob you blind or do janky work) or is any garage or side-street mechanic liable to do that if your a bit clueless, or look like a cash cow :/

Folks on the motor forum here seem to be very knowledgeable, so was just wondering if it was a good spot to ask for a place to go where I'll get right work for the price.

    Thanks :)

check obvious things like the lights and tyres , then NCT it, then find a garage to remedy any faults found. Why would you want to pay to get it checked twice?

If it hasn't been serviced in a couple years, get that done now if you reckon it'll pass nct on everything else (no rust, smoke, etc).
Oil, oil filter and air filter. It can help it pass on emissions (and it should be done anyway).

You can either do it yourself for less than 100 or have a mech do it for you.
A search of this forum for mechs in Dublin
