Aldo vrs Pettis at Lightweight - Booked

At the 169 post fight press conference. A reporter asked Aldo the usual "Who do you want next". He gave the typical, its up to the UFC/Dana/Joe reply. When passed over to Dana, instead of "we'll see", he handed it back to Aldo, basically saying "I like that fight but Jose's the man at 145, he can call the shots on moving up".

    Jose's reply:
    "I'm ready, lets go."
    Dana: "We got a fight"

Obviously no indication on time. But we could be looking at the superfight around May.

    Edit:
A few more details regarding the state of 145/155 divisions depending on the result.
If Also wins vrs Pettis at 155, he vacates the 145 title.
Should Aldo lose, he can go back to a 145 championship match (vrs whoever at that time), or stay at 155 if he wants.

I think Dana said Aldo would have to vacate the title before going on to challenge Pettis, and if he loses that and wants to come back down, he will have to challenge the new featherweight champion for the belt.

I would have liked to have seen pettis defend his belt once and aldo to give mendes a rematch before this fight happens.

Thread title is a spoiler. Makes it obvious Aldo won.

Now there's a card that's well above average and its not even announced yet:D

It's 24 hours afterwards. If you haven't seen/heard the result I doubt you are worried about spoilers. That said I think a week is the rule,

But tbf it also ambiguous, Aldo could beobing up after losing the belt.

You should spoiler your comment in case people dont notice the thread title.

You don't make the rules - read the charter.
Its still a spoiler if you give the result away in a thread title within a reasonable time period of 1 week

And you don't enforce them - you're not a mod.

Besides I already said I knew it was a week. Title doesn't clearly give it away, if a mod has an issue he can edit if he likes. I won't mind.

As Mellor said, I think the thread title is ambiguous enough. It doesn't give away the result, in my opinion.

Then logic defies you. If he lost, they'd be booking a rematch - like they did with Silva.

Since when does a champion losing guarantee a rematch . If also had lost a 5 round decision. 50 - 45 he wouldn't be given a rematch he would have had to earn it.

    GSP vs Serra
    Silva vs Weidman
    Penn vs Edgar
    Faber vs Brown
    Edgar vs Henderson
    Cain vs Dos Santos
    Franklin vs Silva

If he lost a 5 round decision 50-45, they wouldn't be trying to sell a superfight with him moving up a division. The whole selling point would be diluted. Just like Silva/Jones when Silva lost.

That's why in my opinion, which is based on logic, the result of the match is obvious from the thread title. It's not my fault other people are too slow to make the same deduction.

There has being 60 odd championship fights in ufc history. Plenty of champions didn't get a rematch.

Frankie Edgar after losing a championship match to benson Henderson. Dropped to feather weight to immediately challenge Jose Aldo.

So before you go calling everyone else slow think about that buddy.

Came here to read people discussing the likely winner of this fight. 17 posts and still just people whinging about nonsense.

When are you actually gonna discuss the fight?

Be interesting to see how it's priced up.

I'd say Aldo 2/5 Pettis 7/4 kind of thing.

Would be a hell of a fight, Pettis won't let Aldo coast like he has been lately. Will certainly put pressure on him and is a finisher.

Aldo managers has been calling for this to be a 150lbs catchweight. That's stupid.
It's purely an insurance plan so Aldo can retain the title. Hope he doesn't screw the fight up for the fans.

If Aldo took the fight at 155 and lost would it not be a huge dent in his income? Anyone know how that would work?

Probably not, he be back headlining a 145lb main event for his usual money in no time.

    I hope you're right
I'd love to have that price on pettis
I'd say they'll have it more evenly matched myself
    I'm guessing 4/6 aldo 6/5 pettis

Insurance for a situation like Aldo spends months putting on healthy muscle then Pettis gets injured and Aldos too heavy to go back and left lying. From Aldos point of view its a fair point.
