    Hi

I'm just looking for some information about a meeting iv been called to because iv been unemployed for more than 3 months. The letter says its a group meeting to discuss looking for work, courses etc.

Does anyone know if what these meetings are like? Is there much one on one or is it a general discussion? Also how long does it go on for?

    Thanks

It's a normal meeting for those unemployed for several months I've had to go to one myself before. When I went my group meeting was a slide show of sorts to let you know what resources are available to ya. (Fás, Jobbridge etc.) it was fairly informative and painless.

After that you'll usually be scheduled in for a 1 to 1 interview a week or two after. The 1 to 1 is usually in a LESN office with a guidance counsellor type person (not sure of their exact title). They'll go through your interests and try set ya on the right track back to employment or into further education. They're usually very professional about it and not there to scaremonger.

Be warned they could force you to do something like a jobbridge or a course.

I had a one to one meeting yesterday and I had proof I was looking for work. And making plans to go to the UK as there's more work over there.

Im still looking for work here and the guidance counsellor was determined to get me onto a jobbridge or a course.

There's very little jobbridge jobs going in what I want to do. And im not happy with slave labour with employers taking advantage. I got experience on my course but another 6-9 months where the extra 50 wouldn't even cover travell.

The job bridge work is meant to be voluntary, as in its up to you if you want to take up a job bridge work or not.

You can approach employers and ask them would they take you on under the job bridge scheme. And this is what she wants me to do. Sounds voluntary, alright.

And she said she'll be checking up on me in a month's time.

Yet, I know people who went to these. Never worked a day in their lives, gave every excuse at this meeting. Said they would do a course and that was it. They were never called onto a course.

I think its a case of who you get at these meetings.

If its not that, I could be sent on a course which wont even benefit me at all, have no interest in.

Its all about getting people of the dole and it doesnt matter what they get you doing.
