    Hi

I am on the committee of a sports club, and it was suggested we move all our documents to the cloud. This would be between committee members & save one person holding everything.

Would anyone have any recommendations on a cloud storage, we have looked at dropbox, but would be interested to see if there was any better options around. If we have to pay a nominal fee so be it

Office365 - lots of sme's to larger Companies using it - also the GAA's email system has moved to this (for the Clubs etc.)

also Skydrive / Google drive is similar to dropbox

Office365 is a subscription service on a per user starting at about €50 per user per year
or home premium (up to 5 pcs) at 99/yr

You could also consider Google apps/Google drive at 50 per user /yr

    Comparison
You might apply for the non-profit edition

There are many simple storage services for free
Dropbox is probably the best known.

Dropbox and Goggle Drive/Hangouts do a very good job, especially if you want to add or delete or have consensus on documents or newsletters.

    Hi Birdsong,

I have worked on a couple of similar projects recently.

Lots of options. The best thing to do is look at long term use and functionality as opposed to the quick fix solution that works for now.

If there are documents going up it would be best to have things like:

Versioning control (if someone changes the document the version will change, if you want to roll back to an old version you can do this)
Permissions: You might want some people to only see some files. You might want some documents to have read only access and others to be editable by anyone.
    Mobile access and compatibility:
You may want it to work on any computer/ browser/ phone / tablet any where and any time. You may also want it so that you can edit files and documents when and where you want (with out having to install word/ excel on the device you are using).
    Security/ compliance:
You might want it so that data only sits in Ireland or EU (So that prying eyes from US cannot see!)

Lots to consider, happy to discuss with you further if you wish but these are some of the things that need to be considered.

Office365 could potentially be the best fit for now or later, what ever solution you do pick you want to make sure that you can easily add on extra options and features for expansion and growth.

PM sent with my details if you want to discuss further.

    Ger

Apologies for thread hijacking, but I'm looking for a similar service.

I want to save documents submitted by multiple people in the one location - it's also absolutely necessary that each document is then locked, i.e. can no longer be edited/ deleted, however can be opened and read by those with access.

What's the best service for this? Free too if possible.

You could use OneDrive, create a shared folder and upload to there.

You can restrict editing from the Review tab in Microsoft Word
