Those of you that have cows calving in the autumn, what do you feed your cows for the winter, allowing that they have access to GOOD quality silage,do you find that they can manage on the good silage alone ,or do you give them meal (a)never (b)until you get them back in calf or(c) all winter.Any of ye that do feed meal what are ye using, would barley on its own be ok

Ad lib silage and they eat a lot, a couple of kilo of meal until they are back in calf. No issue with most of the cows however have one with twins and a shy eater this year that needs a bit of tlc.

Pretty much the same here. Ad lib silage and suckler nuts until they go in calf.
