Just wondering apart from the fibre modem what else does the engineer install at your house?

They will most likely install a new either just a faceplate to your main phone connection point OR replace it with a newer one. They will need access to put a 'toner' device so they can find your wire pairs in the street cabinet but that is only for 5min or so. They will also plug in and install a wireless/modem unit once they street and phone point work is done.

So basically in addition to the efibre modem they install an extra wireless modem as well? By the way what is the toner?

All that is different at the end is they will change the phone socket to one like the below and plug in the modem (which is a built in router with wireless capabilities also).

The engineer removes your main phone socket and connects a toner to the two phone cables entering your house. He then goes to the cabinet out on the street and picks up your connection using a listening device and connects them to the fibre cabinet. He returns to your house and puts on a new main socket like the one pictured above. He then connects the new fibre modem. He does a speed test on his ipad, photographs his work and that's it. Job done. All takes about 30 mins.

Thanks for the great detail. Whats the toner by the way?

No bother. The toner the installer used with me is a small battery operated device with two crocodile clips on cables. He only uses the toner during install as he needs it for each job.

The toner sends a tone through your line so it can be identified in the cabinet... That's my understanding of it anyway.

Love it. Great speeds. It slowed for a few evenings after the bad storms but it's fine now.

I wouldn't have a clue. I'm a bit hardy for game play tbh. The upload speed averages between 16-18 mb/s.
