    Hi Guys,

    Looking for some advice.

I studied a Bachelor of Business in Marketing and Management in LIT a few years ago. I am hoping to do the pde this year. Now obviously I know I'm eligible to teach Business Studies on completion of the course and registration with TC, however, I am going apply to the TC to assess the possibility of teaching Economics. Now as it stands I know I don't have enough credits but am i correct in saying that the TC will make recommendations on how to gain extra credits?? Is there anyone else in the same situation or who has completed this course in LIT and gone teaching? Thanks a mill :)

I would strongly advise you to reconsider teaching as a career.

You could always phone that useless TC tomorrow and ask them

I had them assess my degree for maths last year. They just identified areas in which I had shortfalls. I then had to email the various universities to see if they offered modules in these particular areas and to see was it possible to register for only a couple of modules.

I wouldn't be so sure. I have a BSc (Hons) Business Mathematics and was informed that I was not able to teach Business Studies. The teaching council are a joke IMHO.

In fairness there's no heavy maths in business studies, as a subject it's more management, HR, organisational theory focused. Just because you have Business in your degree title doesn't give you an automatic right to teach it. It would be a joke to allow someone to teach a curriculum which they have no knowledge of, hence why each degree needs to be assessed.

Yes there is no heavy Maths in Business Studies but tbh I covered more on my A-level course than the LC covers. That coupled with my degree experience should be more than enough to be honest. When it comes to the teaching of Mathematics, it really is disturbing at the lack of knowledge on show - many teachers teaching Mathematics that I know would never be endorsed by the TC with the qualifications they have yet continue to teach the subject.

OK guys thanks for your replies.

Well I've sent my application today to be assessed for both Business and Economics for peace of mind more than anything. Well surely after a four year Business degree and on completion of PDE, i would presume that i would be eligible to teach Business. I mean if someone completes a business degree and can't teach business then who can?? I know i will never take anything for granted but it makes logical sense.
