Best Car to Learn In?

Im browsing Donedeal every day and coming up blank so looking for opinions from fellow learners here so mods please don't move this to motors.

Personally Im looking for as frugal as possible, bare minimum tax (€200?), maximum fuel economy and reliability, everything else a plus, not too worried about speed as I'm just not a very fast driver and don't think I ever will be.

What are people choosing as their first cars these days? Ive been told to keep an eye out for Daihatsu's but my God they are fugly little nuns cars or at least the 1.0Ls are anyway, thats taking frugal a bit too far I think.

Best bet would be a Yaris or Micra very easy to drive and good running little machines.

    Your asking two different questions.

Best car to learn on would probably be a diesel. They dont cut out as easily.

Best first car for the those on a low budget could an old yaris.

Well I mean for people who know how to drive without stalling etc just the first little 1L to get good enough to pass the test in for as cheap as possible before you upgrade, very few small diesels around.

Again as said above Yaris or Micra, Micra's can be picked up very cheap an d are bullet proof engine wise once the old model 2002 or under.
