Right, basically this has come about due to my cash happy friends ditching me to go to a resort that i couldn't afford to book having just come back from two weeks boarding so quick.

Now looking at heading off on my toblerone... destination unknown!

I honestly couldn't give a monkeys where i go now as log as there's a decent chance for good conditions! Aiming for mid March.

Basically i'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of routes to take to get anywhere on a serious budget! So far i'm looking at flying into Memmingen and bussing it to Soll (if this is the case does anyone know of any dirt cheap pensions in the resort! Quality means little, as long as its got a bed and and is cheap i'll be happy)

Another route i'm looking at is flying to Geneva where i'll be spoilt for choices of where to go so if anyone has any idea of the cheaper resorts and accommo around there brilliant! I'd love to do Chamonix but i can already imagine it will work out expensive as I've heard beers and food etc it just as bad as here at home!

All else failing i'll just go back to Slovakia it's for next to nothing really but i'd really rather head somewhere else having already just done two weeks there.

Basically just any info anyone has on cheap flights, bus/train transfers and cheapo accommodation to any of the resorts around Europe! Ideally id like to get all that at around €350 if possible, i could have managed it if i had an extra body to share the accommodation with but going solo i'm not sure if it will be possible now! Hostels would be perfect but i can never seem to find many online!

All input welcome and appreciated folks!

SpaceCowboy re: Memmingen to Soll, it's also worth looking at the Ryanair flights to Salzburg, a taxi transfer from there to Soll is only €33, so worth checking out how that compares to cost of transfer from Memmingen.

If you email the tourist board & tell them you want budget accommodation they might come up with something suitable, and I've put out some feelers for you re: cheap options, I'll PM you if any joy. It's a good place to land into on your own though, you won; be long meeting people, and there's lots happening the week of March 15th so plenty to keep you occupied!

Will be interesting to see what other options you might get from Geneva too- good luck!! And no matter where you end up, I think you're dead right to go it alone- that's how the best adventures start :-)

    Just PM'd you :-)

Thanks Fanny, March 15th is the exact date im hoping to fly out but can work around it if flights are cheaper etc! Not too sure about the whole "go it alone" thing but i really want to get another trip in this season so unless i can talk one of my non-ski/snowboarding friends into giving it a bash i'll have no other choice! The wait all summer to get back to the slopes is killer so i have to get away again!!

I hear ya!! I'm already planning where to go after Easter lol ;-)

That's a good week to bring a non-snow mate, since there'll be a lot happening around the middlestation. And if you go it alone, I'm pretty sure that basement is nicely heated lol ;-)

How would i enquire about the dungeon basement? Send them an email perhaps? It's clearly not mentioned on any of the sites they feature on!

Hahahahaa, I would maybe just start by emailing them and saying you're looking for a reasonably priced single room and that they'd been recommended?

You can mention your dungeons & dragons experience in the next email if required lol ;-)

Haha that sounds like the smarter idea alright ha! Looking at flights there and Salzburg is out of the question! nearly 300 before i even check a bag in but if if i fly over on the 16th and leave the 23rd ill get a flight for under 200 with bag so that's promising!

OR I've just priced fights for a friend (I've a gang arriving that week too), Dublin-Munich Friday 15th (16.00 flight) to Friday 24th (20.00 flight)is €199. They're good flights because you get to ski on the last day, train leaves 1605 from Kufstein, train is €24 eachway.

Who did you see that flight with? ryanair only seem to fly Sat/Sun also does that €199 include checking in a bag? I can get a super cheap flight if i fly out on the 16th and leave on the 23rd (€182 euro incl. bag) Means i'd lose a day but again doing things on the cheap i wouldn't mind so much.

Was looking on that site and cant really figure it out, i might be a a bit dim is all but can you fly out of Dublin with this crowd? I couldn't figure out how to sort out flights! There's one package for Soll for about €550 full board which would be ideal if it includes flights but that can't be right is it?

That's Aer Lingus to Munich, without a bag SpaceCowboy. Ryanair sounds like a good price all in so..!

Yes I would imagine that package deal does include flights & accommodation, sounds about right! You shouldn't have a prob getting good deals around then- might be no harm to price accommodation only in those places too- they'll be keen to fill the spots since it's off-season.

Have you emailed the tourist board yet? Honestly you might be surprised what you get back from them- they're really good. Esp if you make it clear that budget is your priority. Then you can get cheap flights, do your own transfers & accommodation and you're laughing. Food & drink is not expensive & there are plenty of handy supermarkets so you can live pretty cheaply once you're there. And I'll be there that week so I can point you in the right direction for ski-rental etc if you need it.

My friends are coming on midweek flights mainly on Friday till Wednesday, because their priority is getting to the RopeRace which is on the Saturday, so their flights were pretty cheap. If you can make it for that race it's definitely worth it- it's the best day out of the season (and generally a pretty well kept secret, lol!) It's purely a locally organised day, no tourism involvement so just rally laid back good fun :-)

Sort your own flights with ucpa but they organise transfers with bensbus.

I did the UCPA thing last year in Chamonix and I have to say for the money it was excellent value. IIRC it was €710 which included 7 nights bed, breakfast and dinner, all equipment hire and a 5 day course in off piste snowboarding as well as a 6 day lift pass which was €220 on its own . All we had to add on was cheap Ryanair flights to Turin and from there we got to Chamonix using a combination of trains and buses, cost around €15 one way which was decent for the distance.

UCPA have about 8 or 9 places across the alps, I believe one of them has an outdoor heated pool which would be a hoot in a ski resort. Theyre a great place to go if you're alone as you'll meet lots of others in the bar and eating area.
