    I can't see why you'd bother with cat7 for a home network tbh.
    5e or 6 should be more than enough.

    Your probably right. Do you know if s 25meter cable would be too long/ effect speeds?

    Hell no!

    That said, I'm not up much on networking but have recently ran a 25m cat6 got in maplin for a neighbour with a 120mb connection and all was well. Negligible difference between using a short cable in this case.

    Most consumer network devices will run 1000Mb/s over a cat5e cable once of course both end points are gigabit ports.

    Now, if money is no object and you want to stay with copper cabling then to cat6 with you aim for 10-gigabit :) but your looking at enterprise class hardware for 10GBASE-T. Don't think its really been adopted since most would go with fibre at that speed.
