Honeymoon in South Africa

I'm getting married in September and we're thinking about having our honeymoon in South Africa. Originally I was thinking of flying into Joburg, driving to Kruger and then heading down to the Cape, but tbh it seems like way too much rushing about for the 2 and a half weeks that we have. So I'm currently thinking about flying into Cape Town, going to Franschhoek for two nights and visiting some vineyards, then to Knysna for three, Storms River for two, Addo National Park for two, then back to Cape Town via a night in Oudtshoorn, with about 5 nights in Cape Town to round off the trip. I was wondering if we'd spending too much time in some places and not enough in others? Or are there some great spots that we're missing? Not into shark diving or extreme sports, but some hiking in beautiful scenery would be great, as well as chances to absorb some local culture, food and drink.

Also, does anyone have experience of the weather in the Western Cape in September?

Heya, only seen this now. August is the coldest (and often rainy-est) month of the year, and 1 September is officially Spring Day, but the warmer weather can take a while to kick in. On the whole, September is fine :)

Your itinerary sounds ok. I'm not sure where you'll be staying in Addo, but if you wanted to hike, the Alexandria Trail is relatively demanding but incredibly beautiful and well worth it. I can't find listings for the trail on the SANPARKS website now, so I don't know if they're not taking online bookings (the trail is usually in demand, and booking would be well in advance if you were going to get in - also preference given to groups of 12, otherwise pairs and smaller groups get fit into). Also, I'm out of the country for the last two-and-a-bit years, so I have no idea if its closed for upgrade/conservation work or such.

While you're in Franschhoek, you're near enough to Wellington to make a visit to Diemersfontein and try their Malbec.

Also, if you like bubbly, and have a thing for nougat at the same time, don't miss Villiera's tastings. And if you don't like nougat... well just try the bubbly! I love the Tradition Brut, and the Tradition Brut Rosé is well impressive (I like it, and I'm not really a rosé kind of person).
