Well known, well established tire fitter and light work franchise had a car in for a service a little under a year ago.
I had said car in for a CEL on the dash.

    Was throwing a P2626.

Had a look at the O2 sensor on the precat to find (picture attached)

Clearly someone has snipped one wire and loosely reattached it to throw intermittent faults.

On the same car I had to remove the radiator and front grille to get enough room to remove the oil fillet it was put on so tightly. I'm not being a drama queen, I had to use a 3 foot extension pole to get the leverage.

It's worse than you think - they cut it completely and even forgot to remove the knife they used. That picture is damning evidence. Fingerprints? Feckers were even too lazy to put it back into the exhaust. Dreadful stuff.

Why would they strip the wire? What car is it?

You sure they didn't cut the wire so they could test it?

Theres never the need to cut a wire to test it.

How else would they lick it?

    07 seat leon 1.6

Found it very dodgy, no evidence of burning anywhere near where the wire runs.

Owner bought the car new and never even knewwhat the CEL was until about 2 weeks after he had it serviced by *******

Car does very little mileage so wouldn't of been picked up by the ECU until he had driven it for a while.

    How I found it

    How I found it

Seems the blue is the +ve side of the heating element in a wideband sensor. Is it the upstream sensor?

Seems odd as to why you'd cut the heater wire , usually they need to be hot to sense the O2 in the gas.

Are any of the other wires spliced? Sometimes it's a cheap way to fit crap eBay sensors.

I think if they wanted to cut it you'd cut it, no point in stripping back the insulation for the lol. Suprised it wasn't shorting off anything. I'd put a inline on it and stick it back on.

Sorry just copped your a mech obv ya know all that already!

    No other wires touched.

You wouldn't need to cut it completely to test it, only sheer a bit of the insulation back.

He never had issues with the O2 sensor in the past, sent it in to this franchise for a service last year and as the car is only driven 4k a day in traffic the ecu didn't pick up the badly wired sensor till he done an airport run.

Just found out this morning they charged him through the nose for iridium spark plugs.

I changed the plugs yesterday as they were in a bad way and it was clear they were original plugs.

He missread the invoice they gave him - they were "I ride u mmm" plugs. There's an awful lot of those getting "fitted" every day. Those and the special oil filters that can be regenerated fully by wiping the outside with a rag and some jizer. And 15w40 mineral "fully synthetic" that is a special "trade only" product that only some outlets can buy for their "preferred" customers.

Sadly, crap like this always has and always will go on. Pity really, how hard would it be to actually just do what you were meant to do and be straight with customers? Any recourse to get money back off them for the customer Keith? I'm guessing not, which is a pity.
