Having great fun with my newly arrived Power Meter.

    So in my tower:

    i5-3570K - 4.5GHz@1.256v
    AsRock Z77 Extreme 4
    Sapphire/HIS HD 7850's Crossfire - 1100/1250
    Corsair H100
    8GB G Skill Ripjaws DDR3
    Crucial M4 64gb SSD
    WD Blue 1TB HDD
    XFX Pro 750w PSU
    3 120mm fans
    1 140mm LED fan
    NZXT Hue LED lights system

Power measured from the plug for the tower.

Idle 80w (86w with fan controller maxed)

Playing Youtube, few other tabs open in Chrome 95w (spikes to 117w for a split second every 5 seconds or so)

CPU maxed out 100% with Prime 173w

    2 7850s (OC'd) maxed out 100% with script miner 320w

    CPU 100% and two GPUs 100% 425w

Quite surprised how low the result is when everything is maxed out 100%. Obviously in real life situations it won;t draw so much. Will test with some gaming tomorrow.

Some perspective. Boiled the kettle 1/4 full of water ........ max draw 1980w !!!!!!

Very good information there. You see people buying 850w PSUs because the spec of their new GPU says so. Just goes to show that the actual wattage is alot less :)

Exactly man. Look at AMD's requirements for the HD 7850.
500W (or greater) power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended7
600W power supply (or greater) with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connectors recommended for AMD CrossFire™ technology.

You can see I didn't draw even close to that!

I might pick one of them up and no doubt entertain myself for hours around the house ! lol

Off topic, you're running 4.5 @ 1.256v , seems like a nice chip, have you tried higher? Isnt the limit around 1.375 depending on temps :)

I did briefly flirt with 4.6ghz at the same voltage but it wasn't stable. At the time the system was new and I'd had a few problems and had had to RMA ram etc to Germany which took a while, so when I hit my original goal of 4.5ghz I was like, fúck it, time for some games! Might mess around with it some more some weekend and see what I can squeeze out of it!

Very interesting. I presume you're measuring the "from the wall" draw as well, so the actual PSU output would be even lower again.

I wouldn't under estimate the amount of crappy PSUs out there that are labeled way over their real wattages though so you can definately understand why they do it.

This thread makes me want one of those as well now I think it might be my next new toy. Hours of fun before it gets banished to the man drawer for all eternity :)

Thats 418W running Primes and mining litecoin.

    5770 108W
    7870 175W
Q6600 105W (But lets call it 120W+ as its at 3.5Ghz from 2.4)
