I am thinking about trading in my Renault Clio 2011 1.2 royale it's has 86000 km on the clock. I'm looking at 131 vw polo. What would be the average price I would get for the Clio.

I'd have thought 5500-6000 but it'll depend on how the polo is priced.

Would I get more if sold straight

You could buy a new Clio for 9999 on scrappage a few years ago. Fair enough they're more expensive now but dealers still remember this.

You'd get a bit more privately and would be able to negotiate a discount on the polo.

That's good to know about privately, thing is can't be without car if I sold it privately and had nothing bought as I need it to commute to work each day. But it's is an option if I can't find anything suitable in a car to trade it in against

I've had the polo and Ibiza as rental cars and tbh there's nothing between them.

At the moment I'm between a polo Ibiza and maybe a fiesta. I want something with abit of power but not way over the odds price wise. Something that is reliable and has good resale value

What engine are you looking at? The 1.2 TSI is quite a nice engine.

1.2 possibly 1.4 but I don't want my insurance to go through the roof and also depends on the uptake of the car when going up through the gears the Clio is very sluggish and has no power my sister 1 litre 00 polo has more

The non turbo 1.2 is a dog though.

The Clio may feel slow due to better refinement. but its actually much quicker than the 00 polo.
It is still relatively slow. 0-60 in 13.4 seconds

    Your car has 75hp
    A regular 1.2 polo is 59hp (15.6 seconds)
There is also a 70hp version (13.6 seconds) still slower than your Clio
    The 105hp 1.2 TSI does 0-60 in 9.4 seconds
    The 1.4 is 11.8 seconds

If your main reason to change is that you're sick of driving a boring slow box, then a 1.2.polo will not be a good move unless its a TSI

Thank you for your help. I have been advised to go with a diesel model now so the hunt begins again and the budget will have to increase. Not that many diesel model pools out there so I am now thinking if going with the golf

Get a price on a new Clio too, it's a completely new model and a more generous trade in. New engine choices too. I here the petrol turbo is an interesting drive.

I won't be going back to Renault I don't like them they have very bad resale value I made a bad decision buying the Clio the first day it won't happen me again going to stick with Volkswagen at least your guaranteed a reliable car which you will resell and a nice car to drive

At least get a price first, I know two wrongs don't make a right , but modern Vw s are not the ultimate in reliability .

If renault offered you a 9k trade in as against say 5 with Vw would you dig your heels in .

    That makes no sense.

Would 86,000km's over 3 years not be diesel terrority?

I'm assuming the OP's Clio is petrol

@ OP, how was the Clio unreliable?

That's what you're expecting. The high resale bit is about the only true thing here. Not necessarily a good thing when you're buying used.

It would be. Diesel polos are mental money last time I checked though. You'd want to be saving lots to justify the premium for the polo in the first place and then the extra for a diesel.

(Incidentally the 1.2 TDI is horrid)
