i have nothing left that will touch her for age, i think about 04 is the oldest now. i have her last heifer in a pen for fattening and im half tempted to keep her now when the subject arose.

01 red Lim (ULE) cow. Goes in calf easy, pops out the calf rapidly, breeds well. She's in great order this year in particular but I suppose she can keep goin on forever!

I was asked to sort out herd register last summer for an elderly farmer. His younger brother used to look after the paperwork but he had died a few years before and the register was in a bit of a state.
He had a 23 year old cow that had left him 19 live calves and she was back in calf again. I must check with OH to see if he still has her.
The oldest that I ever had was a 18 yo BAxSH.

Dad has two Sim cows. He's bring one to the fatstock show in a months time and hopefully he'll send the other one with her. I won't be sad to see them go!! He got the vet to AI the second one last year because she was "outta the best cow I ever had" but nothing came of it so off she goes :)

The oldest suckler cow we've had here went to the factory at 15. Her last calf took it out of her and nearly all her teeth had gone. Sad to see her go,she was a lovely quiet girl.

I had a black limousin cow that got to 21.. she had 19 calves and never had twins.. when u looked at her u would think she was a young cow got small bit shook in her last six months tho..

2 red and White simmentals and I'd say they were most likely out of red whitehead cows. They are showing their age a bit now to be honest but we'll knock this year out of them. The last of the best breed of cows we ever had.

Oldest cow here is 17 years old, 15 lactations with almost 25000 gls produced.;)
Homebred by our own stock bull. 11 females. ICBF never gave her recogition until they finally gave more weighting to longitivy

Have our own 17year old bb cow, still calving every year.Neighbour has a Hereford around 22 years of age.

Oldest here is 17, she is a LIM, has had 16 calves (twins) and is due again this coming March. Probably this will be her last year as she is getting slow on her feet - doesn't stop her being first to the nuts though! I have a SIM heifer from her, a neighbour has one as well, we are comparing notes on how they are doing.

If she was any other cow she'd have been on the hook long ago. She's had too many chances.

My oldest was sold recently a dairy simmental cow who was just short of 16 years old, she was empty, after a few atempts to get her in calf, decided her time was up....

My oldest now is a 9.5 years old dairy cow, she calved yesterday.

Shoulda kept your big bloody mouth shut! Oldest here at the min is 13yrs. Had a 14yr old who I let onto the factory last yr, only got 280 for her, which I would have been annoyed with other than she utterly owed me nothing! I'd close on 1/4 of my current herd are direct descendants of her, you just cannot buy that sort of survivability!

brother still has his first cow she's 29 in March
we got two calveswhen he was 6 and i was 9
she had a calf every year except last year and three sets of twins in her time
no amount of money will make him sell her

Too much attention is paid to bulls and not enough to cow families. Survivability and fertility is down to cows and cow families imo. I think the best you can hope for from a bull is that he won't compromise it.

Was looking through records recently, just over 20% of cows to calf this year are direct descendents from a pure bred calf we bought in 97 for 400 pounds, that was only time we ever bought a dairy animal an only got the one, was'nt that impressed with this one at first as she was no better than average of our own heifers.

We have an Oct 98 cow at home still. Great calves every year. Dangerous bitch though and even worse the first few months after calving. We were moving a few of them last week and I said to the auld lad did he ever think of selling her and he said 'yea, nearly every day but she'd more than likely only kill someone and I'd get no luck for it'!
She's not in calf this year though so factory I'd say next August.

Oldest cow here is a 13 yr old lim x fr she is a twin, lots of good daughters and so on from the pair of them.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Definitey agree with you on that , cow familys are foundation stock.
Alot of oldest cow on here are sucklers. Unfortunately we are not seeing dairy stock lasting , many factors possible at play

Just an update on the above lady. She calved a red Lim bull this morning. Calf and mother doing fine!!! Was planning on culling her this year, but we might go again with her, kinda finding it hard to sell her. Will put up a photo at the weekend.

My 1997 cow was culled last year a black limo but she left a very small weanling heifer she hadn't enough milk for her.
Her 2010 calf is on her 2nd calf now.
