About two years ago you had to wait 9 weeks I read in this thread.
    This may have changed.

    Edit, seems to apply still
    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/unemployed_people/jobseekers_benefit.html
    Loss of employment
    You must have .....
employment. You may be disqualified from getting Jobseeker's Benefit for 9 weeks if you:

    * Left work voluntarily and without a reasonable cause

Your elf will have to take it up with the social welfare office, it can be upto a 9 week wait but assessed on a case by case basis, depending on the reasons for leaving and how much money your elf is getting and when they're getting it.

I hope your elf finds work soon, it would seem cruel to be getting rid of an elf this far from Xmas.

The title of your post is 'Making yourelf redundant' - I believe the poster was making light of the typo. ;)
