Delaying accepting offer

Hey all, looking for some advice on how to delay responding to an offer.

I've recently received an offer for a 6-month contract from a company, lets call them Company A, who I have previously worked with. I said I would consider the offer and get back to them in a couple of days (that was Wednesday).

The reason for delaying is I also had an interview for a permanent position with Company B, which I was expected to hear back today. They had planned to interview somebody else, but that got pushed back a day and so I have been informed I won't know till Monday.

So here is the thing. I would prefer the permanent position, so I'm not un-employed in 6 months time again, however I don't feel like I impressed the interviewers enough and so I don't expect Company B to offer me the role.

Any advice on how to delay responding to the offer? I haven't actually seen the contract, I suppose I could enquire about that and buy me some more time?

    Thanks!

If you've no contract then just accept it, wait until Monday to hear from the other crowd, and if you get the permanent job tell company A you won't be joining them.

Ya it would be awful to put all your hope on company B, only to find out you have been declined!! Best of luck
