Gatso van flash

    passed a gatso van tonight doing 90ish in a 100 zone. it flashed a blue light on top.
    do they flash if under the limit still.

    Vans don't flash, they use infrared technology.

    Not sure what you saw but it could have been unrelated to you passing.

    I stand to be corrected but I think those were retrofitted with IR too so as to not blind drivers.
    Were you flashed recently? Were you fined?

    Occasionally, and I was given a really good explanation by a Boardies here, the IR flash can appear blue to the naked eye. I can't remember exactly why buts its to do with the eyes response in low light conditions. I was skeptical but the reasoning was sound in my mind. I'll see can I find the post.

    Yes, they 'flash' every car but only save the images of those speeding.

    So if you were definitely doing 90km/h in a 100km/h GoSafe zone, then you are fine.

    Yes, the IR is visible at night time as a faint blue flash.

    I cross the border between Germany and NL almost every day and everytime in the evening I see it

    Sound, so it seems it is possible to see a flash even from IR vans.
