    Hi,

Would a diagnostic check be performed on a car as part of a service?

Also whats the rough price for a car service? or does it depend on what needs to be improved or fixed on the car.

    Car: Nissan Almera 2001

I'm just concerned the car isn't performing as well, and it's due a service.

    Regards,
    Sally

this is where things get complicated as some people think car service is only oil and filter, there are other things to consider as with some cars are type of oil used, plugs replaced, oil and air filters replaced as seen some cowboys stating air filter vacuumed.
thinking around 200 euro, wheels removed and brakes checked, suspension checked, tyres which are usually under inflated been forgotten .they should do diagnostic check, but if engine management light or abs light on may charge you.
wiper blades bulbs brake pads or extras would be extra fee.

Basic service is oil, oil filter and air filter. But you may need new spark plugs and a lot of other things done. Brake pads maybe.
Get it serviced by a local indy recommended in this forum and you can't go far wrong.

Price can vary between 100 and 400 depending so it's worth it to shop around and get a few opinions and quotes.

I have a 03 nissan almera, I recently called to nissan dealer in Galway and was quoted 269 euro for full service, obviously it could be more if faults found and need fixing or replacing.

It really depends on a few factors:

    1. What was done at the last service and what is scheduled to be done at the car's current mileage. Remember that you will have routine maintenance as well as potentially having to replace wear and tear items.

    2. Where you get the work done, included in any service or work by a garage will be a labour charge as well as a part charge. A main dealer with larger overheads will charge a lot more in labour and possibly parts than a smaller independent garage or mechanic.

Just to add there probably is very little value in getting a main dealer to service a car of that age, better off finding a good local garage or mechanic who will look after it for you.

Pure madness to bring a 11 year old car to a main dealer.

Made that mistake myself as well going to a main dealer.

I got oil, filters changed for 50 euro in Drumcondra. Should be doable anywhere else in the country.

I brought an old car to a dealer for a full service once - 400 euros.
Since then I learned to do it myself...

Did you get the service done eventually? How did it turn out? Looking for a similar thing

I usually pay 180 for a normal service with oil, filters and plugs all replaced with an independent mechanic. He uses top quality oil and has a great reputation locally. There are cheaper guys around but I have never used them.
