This may be a bit mad but I would absolutely love a Dodge Challenger :o

http://www.dodge.com/en/challenger/ - Starting at $30,000 pre taxes, charges, and whatever else I would need to pay.

What I'm wondering is, would it be possible to import one here? How much would it set me back?

Would insurance companies even look at it?

Anything's possible, it's just a matter of how much and how far you're willing to go, best of luck, this country needs more like you ;)

You'll need to pay duty and VAT.
You'll also need to modify the lights and a few other things like alarm system for the IVA test so you can get a certificate of compliance, then pay the VRT and get it registered.

I saw the motor tax on a Ford Mustang 2007 before. It was €1500

VRT would be huge on importing something like that, tax would most likely be very heavy also and Im not really sure how insurance companies would take to it. Obviously day to day running costs would be pretty hefty.

But if you have done your research, know how much it will cost you all in to import it and are aware of the running costs then more power to you I say! Id give my right arm to be able to afford to import and run something like that and would own one in a heartbeat if I had the means to do so!

Umph, always been a fan of them in the black and red trim.

I remember looking into a Ford Mustang import and I'd scrapped the idea early on due to the regulations and cost you have to go through

    a 2011 for €28k in Germany

Just remember to take availability of parts into consideration as well

no point in buying new as it's not like you will be able to use the warranty

    NO V8 ???

hey there was no mention of V8's in the original post :pac:.

It was more just to say that it might be easier to import a second hand model from the continent then trying to buy new from the states. Yes you may pay a bit more but less headaches overall

There is someone selling new ones in the UK for £38,000 - so I can imagine it would be a _little_ cheaper to get one landed and up to spec yourself, but then you need to add VRT:

The cheapest one in the UK is £26k for an 09 - almost certain that would be the cheaper option:

In normal circumstances (valid NCB etc.) Insurance wont be an issue, a bit expensive but should be OK.

It's the tax that makes this unfeasible, I remember checking this for a V8 Camaro a couple of years ago, and on a similar US price to the Dodge, including VAT, Duty and VRT it was getting close to the €60k mark.

Just my opinion but for the money you would pay upfront as well as running costs you would be into super car territory.

I had the pleasure of renting a 6 cylinder Challenger last year in the states. Beautiful car and plenty power but absolutely woeful when introduced to any bend in the road. Off ramps and even gentle bends were interesting to say the least even at moderate speeds.

Nice to have for a week or two but no way would I buy one. Much better out there for the money.
