SB on TV

    Hi there...

I watch the SB every year. Last year I had to cancel Sky Sports as I couldn't afford it, but I consoled myself that BBC would have the SB and I wouldn't have to listen to Cecil Martin!

However, I've only just found out that C4 got the rights from the BBC, and I can't get C4 in HD on Sky. To add insult to injury, my beloved Broncos are in the SB this year...

As a Sky Customer, is C4 in SD my only option?

    Thanks....

    J..

Yes, watching it on C4 is your only TV option.

Bugger... I don't have fond memories of watching the Broncos in the SB on C4! Thanks for confirming it anyhow...

If you still have your sky satellite you can hook up a freesat box to get the bbc, utv, and c4 in HD.
Might be a bit late for the SB.

I think you can whip out your card and reboot the box, it then becomes a freeview receiver which I think has Ch4 HD. I have an old sky box sans card in another room, and it has all of the UK freeview channels including Ch4 hd if memory serves?

I think that the guys on Sky are absolutely brilliant.

I could listen all day to Kevin and Jeff/Cecil having the banter. The guy on channel 4 is absolutely terrible!

almost positive that c4 HD is encrypted and only available if you have a sky subscription, as is c4 Ireland BUT regular UK c4 is available free to air.
You just need to do as you say with whipping out the card and you have channels 1 to 5 as BBC England 1+2/ ITV/ C4 and channel 5.

If the box hasnt been used for a while then the channels might be blank as there was recent changes in frequencies, but you can reset the box to do an EPG/ software update and that will fix that (you need to turn off at mains, press backup on the box and turn on at mains while thats being held IIRC - did it for father in law at christmas)

And either way, you can add channel 4 SD UK through "other channels" on the sky box.

I knew I wasn't imagining it. Just checked and I have channel 4 HD tuned in on both of my boxes.

Thanks for all the replies, I didn't realise you can tune in C4 HD. Anyone know the frequencies etc. to tune it in? Thanks...

The boards.ie satellite forum should have them.

My thread here has the details. :)

It can be tuned in to other channels and watched from there. Channel 4 HD has been free on satellite for a few years now. You won't be able to tune in any of the BBC channels in HD though, they use a frequency not supported by manual tuning on a Sky box, but you should also be able to tune in UTV HD as well. :)

Thanks for everyone's help, got C4 HD tuned in last night.

By the way, BBC HD is in the EPG, so there's no need to tune it in. Or are you taking about HD versions of other BBC channels?

    Thanks again...

BBC HD no longer exists as a channel. There are now HD versions of BBC 1, 2, 3 and 4 instead as well as their news channel and 2 kids channels. I don't think all of them are on the ROI EPG and they can't be tuned in manually.

Ah, I hadn't noticed the change from BBC HD to BBC 1 HD etc. etc. Thanks for explaining that...
