Road Tax Refund

    Hi,

I have 3 full months remaining on my road tax.
Is there any way of getting a refund on this from the Council ?
I have looked online and it seems the only way is to scrap the car.
I do not want to do this.
I want to sell the car and claim a refund on the road tax disc.
Is this possible and if so how ?

    Thanks

    Jay

No, not possible. If you want to sell the car, having some tax on it is going to help anyway.

Have you tried to sell the car yet. I might guess that there be a lot less than 3 months tax on her by the time you sell it.

    Hi,

I have a buyer for the car, no waiting period.
That's why I was looking for the info asap,

    Thanks

    Jay.

Tax office in Naas told me you can reclaim tax if there is at least 3 full months left on it.

Actually come to think of it I was scrapping the car when I asked about it.

You have to have a minimum of 3 months tax excluding the current month you submit the form.

So if you submit it today, you ignore January and you have to have tax for minimum of February March and April.

    That's what I have.

Looks like I'm stuck with it though.

    Thanks
