Ultegra groupset on new bike but 105 cassette

I purchased a Giant Tcr Advanced 1 before Christmas and just happened to notice last night that the cassette on it is a 105 one but it's supposed to come with an Ultegra one. Am I being petty bringing this up with the shop I bought it in? I do realise the difference is minimal. Just curious as to what other peoples opinions are on this.

A lot of bike manufactures do that. My bike came with Ultegra and a 105 cassette as well.

Specs here lists it as Ultegra.
    http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/2013.giant.tcr.advanced.1/11824/56723/#specifications

I'd be asking for my Ultegra cassette if the bike was meant to adhere to that link.

If the spec says Ultegra then you should ask the shop to switch for an Ultegra cassette. That said, I don't think there's a big difference between the two.

Yeah it's listed as having an Ultegra cassette on the shops website also. I'll mention it to them to see what they say. I presume they just received it from Giant that way and isn't their fault.

There's about a €15 price saving using the 105 €30 v €45 ish. If its 5700 rather than 6700 the performance difference will be negligible and they can work together as per Shimano compatibility charts. There may be a slight difference in weight and the 105 uses plastic spacers and has a steel lockring v an Alloy lockring on the Ultegra.

I guess if you have been riding it then the shop might not change it, but you never know.

On that link I posted, it also says this...
'Every effort has been made to ensure accuracy throughout this website. However, Giant reserves the right to change bike specifications, features, prices and colours without prior notice.'

Shimano Ultegra 6700 10 Speed Road Cassette RRP €88.99
    Shimano 105 5700 10 Speed Road Cassette €67.49

The gear changing won't be noticeably different maybe 0.0002% . There is a €21.50 euro difference on the retail price(though that's not a reflection of what you paid for the cassette as it came bundled with the bike). And the ultegra will be a few grams lighter.

So if the opportunity cost of the money spent, the few grams added to the bike and the psychic burden of not getting what you paid for outweigh the hassle of complaining, then have a word with the shop. If not then don't bother. I'd probably ask for the Ultegra one or at least have the conversation.

In the shops defense they probably put whatever cassette came in the box with out paying too much attention. And I doubt they were deliberately trying to deceive.

The shop itself doesn't have such a disclaimer on their site. All I can do is mention it to them and if they aren't willing to change it I'll not get too annoyed about it.

Shimano Ultegra 6700 10 Speed Road Cassette RRP €88.99
    Shimano 105 5700 10 Speed Road Cassette €67.49
    .

You need to start shopping around a bit Pete ;-) This seems high even for LBS prices.

Thanks, I appreciate such a detailed response. I don't believe they were deliberately trying to deceive me. As you say I'll at least have the conversation anyway and see what they have to say on the matter.

In his defence he did say RRP. I do realise realistically you'd expect to pay around half that.

Something similar happened to me and another who ordered the same bike from Giant. A better saddle came with the bike than what was listed.

Better I could cope with! What saddle did you get out of curiosity? How do you find the bike?

Have you taken the cassette off the bike?

Are you determining that the cassette is 105 by reading the label on the spacers on the cassette? The spacers on my 10 speed Ultegra cassette say '10S' for 10 speed, it looks very similar to 105.

Yep Discounted On Chain reactions they are

    €43.49 for Ultegra
    €30.49 for 105

On this pricing model. The OP is out 13 Euros in monetary terms.

He is out 3 grams according to this and it's down to the lockring being made of a different material.

    http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=111664

There are some construction differences also.

i had a similar issue with my bike.
specs were advertised as full rival, but the crack supplied was apex.
I brought it to the shops attention the following week and they gave me a €80 voucher. it was online purchase.

Then when i upgraded to a Red crank a year later, it turned out the apex left crank was 170 and the right was 175. (bike fit did not pick this and i didnt notice either! ) so it was a balls all over

Giant bikes come pretty much pre-assembled in the box. The cassette would already have been on the wheel.

The shop will probably go back to their Giant rep and get told exactly what it says on the website. You might get a free bottle of lubricant from the shop.

Will it affect performance/were you robbed? No...

Yeah think I'm just being too particular as it's my first decent bike if that makes sense.

If you're not a bike nerd that spends hours per day looking at and thinking about bikes it's hard to know if you are being gypped or not.

You were a small bit gypped. Go in and claim your free lube.
