Intermittent Signal Issue

It's been a while since I posted here, everything has been working just fine, until now...

I have a twin lnb feeding two receivers (one freesat, one generic). Picture is breaking up from time to time. When the picture is fine, I get readings for quality and strength in the high 80s early 90s. It then drops out completley on both receivers.

I have checked cables to see is there any faults and both ends seem fine to me. No sign of water getting in anywhere. Dish is quite solid too, high winds don't seem to be affecting it.

The only thing that has changed in my setup is that I got a new TV (woohoo). My neighbours did build an extension, but again, it doesn't block the view for my dish and as I said, the problem is intermittent. If it was an issue with the extension, then it wouldn't work at all.

I was wondering if it could be the LNB? Is that a likely scenario?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome.

    Thanks,
    MJ

its probably a rusted lnb arm

Hi, I didn't inspect the arm too much, but I think it is aluminium, though I could be wrong.

If not, do you mean the arm could be slipping due to rust?

Funny thing is, tonight the picture has been perfect, no breakup at all.

I would suggest checking your box, u haven't said which type of box u have, first thing to check is to see if you have room left on your hard-drive, if its almost full then the box will be prone to breakup.

This is a common problem with the early white sky plus boxes, box is always recording and buffering the picture, I would also turn down the instant rewind time...

 Says in the OP, 1 Freesat & 1 generic. Mentions a twin LNB: if so, they would just be single-tuner boxes.

Certainly no mention of Sky boxes, plus or otherwise.

Hi, the boxes are a Bush Freesat HD box and a Ferguson Ariva 120. Neither have hard drives connected. I've also swapped out the Bush for another FTA receiver. Same issue. Its not just on one receiver. When the living room PIC breaks up, the bed room PIC also breaks up.

I picked up a replacement LNB tonight, I'll swap it out in the next few days. As luck would have it, there hasn't been a glitch all night!

Definetly sounds like a faulty lnb or one of your cable runs has water in it and shorting out the lnb as a result..

however as its intermittent Is there any trees located nearby perhaps a bird is landing on the front bar???? and blocking your signal from time to time...if so get some tie wraps and point upwards at cut at different lenghts to pry any birds that try and land on the bar in the future.

I thought about the trees, but again I don't think that's the issue. I'll swap the lnb and I like the idea of the cable ties. Thanks.
