    Hi,
I'm thinking about switching to UPC 200mb from Eircom 2mb. If I waws to switch would there have to be cable installation or will I just have to plug in the router and go (I have a white ntl box on my wall that the UPC Rep said I could plug the box into)?
Also if I switch how long will I be without internet?

Any help is much appreciated as I don't know much about broadband.

If you have an existing NTL box on the wall, they may need to upgrade the cable coming from the outside depending on the age of the cable.

It doesn't use the eircom phone line - it uses the NTL cable

There won't be any downtime as they are completely different infrastructures.

You will be responsible for cancelling eircom yourself

UPC don't use the telephone lines, they use co-ax cable.

Go to this link and see if you can get the service by putting in your address: http://www.upc.ie/shop/basket/?addedproducts=102

It says everything is available so does that mean I just plug it in and it will work?

No, you ring them. UPC have to send out a router and activate the line.

I am considering moving my broadband service from Eircom to UPC. I used to receive the TV service from UPC and they charged me an extra amount on the bill because I did not pay by direct debit.

If I sign up with UPC again will they insist on a direct debit or will I have the option to pay the extra charge? I don't like either but the eircom broadband service is so poor I am getting desperate. :(
