It can't be a lightning cable if it's for an iPhone 4. You can get an adapter but it's €29. Not sure of the cheap ones work.

Yea it's for an iPhone 5 it has the 8 pin connecting instead of the 32.it cost €29 and it's an apple product.I need the 32 pin

No there isn't an adapter for doing that, & even if there was it (a genuine Apple product) would cost at least what you have already spent!

You're probably better off just keeping it for future use, giving it as a present to someone who has a 5, 5s or 5c, or trying to sell it on adverts etc.

Lightning is 9 pin (metal casing is counted as a pin).

    Older connector is 30pin.

So basically you bought the wrong cable? Just stick the lightning cable up on adverts to get some of your money back and buy another iPhone 4 cable. You don't necessarily have to buy Apple branded as the 30 pin cables are much less sophisticated than the lightning cables. There are plenty of licensed cables available from well know manufacturers for much less than the price you paid, or you could even just go to the €2 store or Dealz and get one there for a couple of quid.

Bought (well it was bought for them) and opened it without checking it was the right one. Might be a good lesson in there somewhere...

You can't get a lightning for an iPhone 4 only for iPhone 5, 5S or 5C along with newer iPad models.

a bit off topic but I picked up a 32 pin to lightning adaptor for a fiver and didn't work at all.
Picked up the apple one in compub for 29 but at least it works

There's no adapter to go the other way but you can get micro USB to dock connected for €9. Like someone else has said though the €2 shop ones work fine for the older cables.

Got some lightning cables in euro shop and was delighted they work. Apple really rip off with cables that cost them next to nothing to produce but marked up hugely. Had some genuine apple 30pin cables that lasted no length before outer braiding disintegrated.

Lightning connectors are a lot neater, never saw the sense of the 30 pin, must have been inspired by the scart plug

They actually used all 30 pins, which is why they were like that.
