Wage Query

Hi all - just wanting to pick brains here.

I am employed by a high tech company, working 42 hours per week average - split between days and nights, and always working part of the weekend. I have fifteen years of experience working in this sector, and also have a Level 7 NFQ.

What would be a decent wage - as in weekly take home pay for all of the above?

I know there are many factors which would dictate take home pay - but am looking for ball-park figures ... and thanks :)

But what do you DO for this company, and how hard is it to recruit people like you in the location?

Answers re wage level will be very different if you're a cleaner, store maanager, support engineer, technical lead, managing director. And yes, all of those folks may indeed work some nights and weekends.

I would guess about 25-30k gross for technical posts.

It may be better to enquire about gross pay rates rather than net as net can depend on individual circumstances whereas gross can be measured by average pay in a particular sector.

If you feel you are underpaid for your time/experience, according to economists , if you are being paid what the market will bare, you are being paid what you are worth. Ask your employer for a pay rise , if you are worth it they will pay it rather than risking losing you, if they feel you are not worth it and they can get someone to do your job for less, then they won't pay it .

I am currently an equipment technician, doing PM's and troubleshooting the tools I work on. In the semiconductor industry.

Oh that's very poor indeed. Are you factoring in shift - as in nights?

Unfortunately, thats not the way it works with this company ...

That's the way it works in every company, it's only by testing the market that you find out your economic worth.

Contact a recruiter who deals with your area and say you are looking for a similar role. They'll have an idea of what you should be earning.

OP is putting a premium on shift/night work, I'm not sure a recruiter will be able to place a rate on this as it may not be the industry norm and there may not be much demand for these conditions. A recruiter would most likely provide an indication of earnings for a 9-5 job in that sector. I am assuming OP feels he/she should be paid more in current job due to length of time there and type of hours worked.

I certainly do :) and also compared to my co-workers who would not have the qualifications I do nor would they be doing the same amount of work ... but that has always been a bone of contention within my company
