Body type incorrect on Registration Cert

Does it matter if the body type is incorrect on the Cartell report for an imported car - ie car is a hatchback (as per uk report) but is listed as estate on irish report and is registered as such i would now assume.

should i run or get the seller to change before buying or is this something i can change easily myself?

ps everything else is fine on the cartell report - no finance etc etc

I had a truck once that had the wrong Chassis number on the registration book. Had no problem for the first two DOE tests but then someone at the test centre noticed it and refused to certify it.
Never got it sorted and truck was eventually stolen so don't know what could have been done.
If I were you I would be concerned for reason of NCT.

Ok best ask him to sort it out if the log book is wrong. if all is above board, there shouldnt be an issue.

Came across the rf111 form that allows you to change the vehicles details at next renewal of tax but this wouldnt be needed for another 2 months

Not sure if this can be corrected during the re-registration into Ireland.
Can you contact seller and have them check their UK logbook?

Edit - nm, already regged in Ireland. I didn't cop that.

Id love to know how the vrt officer didnt notice it as they came out to view my car when I registered a car previously

no the uk documents are correct

looks like someone - either the seller or vrt office - made an error during registration in ireland

This isn't an NCT issue so long as the chassis number is correct (i.e., the car isn't a ringer). More than likely the wrong box was ticked when the car was imported. It's possible to change it with the RF111 form, but the tax office will likely look for an engineer's report or main dealer's declaration to certify that the car is indeed a hatchback, which is more hassle than it's worth really.

It's easy to have mistakes on a VLC, I had a '94 Mini that had Austin as the name on the VLC. No amount of telling the motor tax workers that BL was dissolved in the 80's at every tax renewal changed that. They told me to bring it to a main Austin dealer to fill out the RF111. Hang on and I get my time machine there

not too keen on handing over a load of cash and having an issue with it, in particular as the insurance details will be wrong (I was checking the insurance cost, the car is listed as estate via reg with insurance company)

You can tell the insurer it's a hatch, the insurance details don't have to match the VLC. They'll put whatever you tell them to on the insurance cert.

    ah right, sound.

hopefully i wont need to sell it any time soon though, would you know how much a dealers declaration would cost as a matter of interest?

The seller was happy enough to change the log book before we completed the sale however a couple of things have happened since which has my spidey senses tingling

Just noticed that the number I first rang him on is different (by one number) from the number he's been using to contact me on since. dunno how i didnt spot it before now

he's never answered the phone when i rang - always ringing back later (sometimes from private number)

He gave me his bank account details for a transfer - as he said it was illegal to accept anything over €5000 in cash - then when i asked for his second name for the payee reference, he told me it was his partners account

Would you walk in this situation even though a mechanic thought the car was good in a once over & a cartell (inc uk history) check came back fine?
The log book should be back from shannon tomorrow and although its cost whatever for the inspections, id rather loose that than end up with a stolen car & no cash. Am I mad to be even considering asking him straight out?

Too many red flags there, I'd walk away tbh.
I assume there are plenty of other models of the same car out there.

its a high spec mondeo but yeah, there will be more out there - albeit, they all have to come from the uk first as not available here
