My 98 Astra g wont start, wife started it his morning, went to shops came out wont start, no turn over, towed it home, now the all the dash lights stay on when key is removed, you put the key in ignition it you can turn it, but no 1,2, or 3 position, it just turns easy,no resistance , no clicking, i have disconnected battery because ignition wont turn off.
    anyone had this problem? thks

Took the ignition barrel out, the barrel shaft has snapped, the problem is the snapped end is still in the ignition side, any ideas how i will get this out?

Just a update , managed to get broken bit out and put in replacement key and berral. but now car turns over but will not start and engine light flashing, read somewere about a chip in key for immboliser? (i have change the battery compartment on keys so central locking works.)
i put original key by the replacement key when starting thinking this will pick up chip from original and start but guess it does not work this, i see a chip in original key but this seems to be stuck in, any advice thks.

You didn't damage the transducer ring or its connections? It sits around the barrel and reads the chip. If you hold the chip near the ring it should be able to pick it up and lift the immobiliser.

I never took the transducer ring out ,left it were it was, i thought the same if keep original key near ring when starting with replacement key, this should pick it up, or will it pick up the replacement key first?
(chips are still in both keys)

The chip is in they key part when the remote is removed. You should be able to swap it.

I managed to take out chip of replacement key, having trouble taking chip out of my key, so tried it anyway, put replacement key in offered up my key with chip next to transducer ring and car started so i thought i tape my key to transducer and just start the car this way, but it seems to be miss and hit ,some times it starts sometimes it dosent. dont know if these reset itself evevrytime or i will have to get chip out of my some how and put it in replacement key.
