Hi, I have worked abroad for over 10 yrs & have been non-resident for tax purposes in Ireland for that period. I will be retiring shortly and will then become tax resident in Ireland. Will I have to pay USC on moneys remitted to Ireland post my retirement but earned while non-resident for tax purposes? Regards.

This an interesting question - I would guess that it will only be liable to USC if it is liable to income tax. Presumably as this income was earned abroad and outside the charge to Irish tax on the basis of non-residency there is no Irish tax and thus no USC.

I would recommend that you should consult an income tax specialist on this point. The fee may more than pay for itself.
