Car stolen - insurance claim

My beautiful Toyota Hilux was stolen yesterday and I don't expect to see it again at htis stage. I rang Setanata's emergency number after theft but they were unbale to aceess my policy to tell me if I could get a replacement vehicle for now. I will be informing Setanta insurance of theft again tomorrow.

I have fully Comprehensive but cannot remember for what value.
I am looking for advice on how I can ensure I get full value of vehicle from insurance claim.
I also included genuine loss of belongings in Garda report of about 700 euro (camera, dash cam and ipad).

I would estimate vehicle is/was worth about 2,500 and was probably insured for that amount.

Wait and see what insurer has to say first? They should be able to get your policy tomorrow morning.

Firstly, you are not guaranteed to get what you have the vehicle insured for, you will get the current market value subject to any excess, that amount will be set by the insurer.

Secondly, if memory serves me correctly, Setanta do not offer any level of cover for theft/loss of personal items from a commercial vehicle so its unlikely you will get the items stolen with the vehicle paid for.

Not many insurers cover theft of personal items under a commercial vehicle policy

    Thanks for replies.
I understand there is a national data base that will give value of vehicle. If I'm lucky the value will be higher than I had valued it for.
I am just a little afraid when making the claim that I say something that might appear irrelevant to me but get's them off the hook. Or I neglect to mention something that helps my case.
I was hoping someone here might have had experience. of this.

You can tell the truth as often as you like

The Gardai were reluctnat to tell me much as they said they would only be speculating. But they did say that unless they caught some joyriders that night the vehicle would disappear for weks or months be replated and then back on the road for burglaries or export. They didn't actually say the last bit, I am just insinuating.

Telling the truth is a good idea. I am maybe being overly cautious that I might give too much or too little info. that would effect my claim. I don't see the insurance companies as being in the business of immediately paying out even to deserving claimants.

Insurance doesn't work like that, you will only ever receive the current market value or what ever you insured it for, which ever is lower.

Very sorry to hear about your car :(
Make sure you specify that you remember locking it as you went into the house .
Maybe you'll get lucky & it may have a happy ending yet :(

In my insurance things have to be locked into the glove compartment ( which in my car has no lock so invalid , or into my booth to be covered.

Still have the car keys in my pocket which should go someway towards proving I didn't leave them in ignition. Can't prove I locked it though. Am certain I did as I always do out of habit.
Will lodge claim tomorow and update this forum as things develop.

You may find Setanta dragging their heels..............they closed down on Friday. Queries are being directed to their Malta address.

Yeah, you're sure that you did. Of course you did, as is your habit time you leave the vehicle. Absolutely 100% sure. In fact, you distinctly remember doing it.
