Could be fan, pump or gas valve.

Is it blowing bords or the small fuse

thanks for your reply, its blowing the boards u can get a bad smell from the board?

Have you done all the usual multimeter tests on the main boiler components & if so, what tests did you do & what results did you get, voltage & resistance?

I take it you are a registered gas installer?

yes i am rgi no. i didnt do the multimeter tests i had a pcb in the van so i put it in and the boiler worked away for a few hours, then i got a call saying boiler stopped working again.

Nothing I can really say to that. Plug & play, you takes your chances.

I would never replace a pcb without eliminating components that frequently blow pcb's. Couldn't afford it really....

You don't have to be perfect. You just have to be thorough. It's your money, blow as many as you like, cos I'm sure the customer won't be paying you for another one.

Check your neutral on the fan, if your getting 230v across n&e it the fan that caused your PCB short. But generally only blows the 2amp board fuse.

You wouldn't be testing for short circuit with live mains. Short circuit tests are carried out with resistance between the live & neutral. The only test with live mains is a system polarity test.

Sure yea a Resistance check. a short causing reversed polarity in the neutral.

I see what you mean, it's just a short circuit & reversed polarity are two very different things & reverse polarity would generally not blow a pcb. Most boilers will run happily with reverse polarity but a short circuit is where the live & neutral meet before a load instead of across a load.
Short circuit test is done by testing the resistance between the live & neutral, whereas a reverse polarity test is done by testing voltage between live, neutral & earth.

BOB JIM please join the RGI section for further help, this isn't the place for in depth fault finding procedures on gas boilers.

I'll. Just say this...spot on shane funny thing the fans running with reversed polarty same as cir pump but the fan from what I've seen if the phase and neutral are reversed the fan runs in reverse, I went straight to the ApS looking for fault when I connected fan incorrectly Lol.

Would a cir pump do them same with reveresed pandn turn the pump from left to right hand spin I wonder.
