Take it back to garage, it's their job to fix it and to charge the insurance company directly for it.
Don't give up, if this a type of garage that will let a car with frame issues back onto the streets they may be in the business for the money and not quality work.

I think you should ring the insurance company again and say as they sent you to this garage that it is their responsibility to put it right. Their garage has not restored your car to the state it was in before the accident and if they dont sort it you will be dealling with the ombudsman. Insurance companies are ****ers and you have to force them to meet their obligations. The ombudsman is not toothless and if they arent going to sort it out tell him that you will get onto him.

The insurance company have to pay a few hundred of a charge if you get the O involved regardless of whether your complaint is upheld or not. So they are always keen to avoid this. It wont cost you anything.

Don't insurance companies require you to sign a form saying that you are satisfied with the repair work and that the claim is now settled?

Never ever let a garage that is specified by an insurance co,especially if it is a third parties co and they are at fault. Ins co's will get the job done as cheaply as they can and so have the garages pared down to the bone.
Bring the car to your own garage and have them fix it. They make promises of a loan car,but you are entitled to this anyway if the other party is at fault.

Don't bring car to your own garage. The insurance company are the ones that have to set this right and you can't go somewhere they have not pre-approved.
You can get car assessed by another mechanic but you probably won't get reimbursed.

That is not exactly true. In the first instance you could have taken it to any garage you like. Now that they have done a half arsed repair, I dont know what the position is.

It might be best to contact the insurance ombudsman and ask for advice. After this contact the insurance co/garage. When dealing with the insurance co say you have contacted the ombusdan for advice ...

It's too late to go anywhere else now. The third party's ins co have cocked up the car so they should now fix it. The op should however have brought the car to his own repairer and not be dictated to.

I rang the insurance company and they said if i had a complaint it would be with the said garage and to ring them which i did, but was told they were very busy and i would need to wait a week before they will look at it.

The small claims court may be an option. I'm not sure if that's possible since you didn't pay for the work yourself, but they definitely listen to cases of dodgy workmanship if the repair cost is < €2,000. The insurer is right in that it's not their fault you have a repair issue. They didn't repair the car, and they paid for the work to be done. Contacting the ombudsman would be fruitless, as the insurer is fully complying. It's the garage that need to be pressured.

It's too late for this case now, but you can bring your car to any garage of your choosing for a quote in a situation where a third party is at fault. If any insurer tells you otherwise, they're lying. If someone said they'd fix your car out of insurance, but only at a garage of their choosing (i.e., the cheapest, dodgiest local scammer), would you agree? This is the same situation, insurers have their own list of garages that provide the best value for money for the insurer, but not necessarily the best repair for the damaged party. In a comprehensive claim where you're claiming for your own at-fault repairs, you probably have to go with your insurer's choice, depending on your own policy.

In the same vein, you're also entitled to get the cheque sent to you rather than the quoted garage, and under no obligation to get the car repaired at that garage or indeed at all.

If the other party is at fault, you can go to any garage that you please. Where did you get this from?
