Hey gang! I was going to give up doing judo in ireland as it was too much work to get to clubs. But a friend gave me the look and pointed me to your forum. I am a female black belt from Canada, 56kg category and miss randori like there is no tomorrow, I live in Maynooth and do not have a car. I trained at the Takahashi Dojo in Ottawa. The kids at the UNI are nice, but not seasoned judoka, Celbrige is fantastic, but the club is really building a team of kids, Coolmine is also a great bunch but it is hard to get there regularly. So for the time being, i go to the gym everyday, run, and do workout classes at the glenroyal to keep fit.

Here is what I am looking for:

    a) If not judo, then a high caliber either bjj, or other related, jiu jitstu, or related where there I can learn, and work hard with a convivial group not far from home
    b) i do not mind traveling if i can get an all day clinic in dublin in judo etc,
    c) does anyone drive from maynooth to do judo or these activities anywhere

In short, I miss the out of breath workout with a group of people, that satisfying group gestalt and endorphin laden activity. I miss working hard on techniques and seeing individual and group progress, and I miss that community feel. I also miss that community feel of working hard for the benefit of all of us. I do not compete, but used to train with olympians and national teams. So I can keep up.

If you have ideas let me know!

    Thanks a million
    Tracey

thanks! I just dropped them a note to see if I can attend or observe a class. It is only once a week at the moment however it seems.

It is a totally different style, but might be interesting if it is a very good sensei. Thx for the tip.

No probs, I only started recently with it and like you said, its totally different style but i'm enjoying the challenge of it. Hope you find something.

Here are some contact details for Judo clubs in your area CLICK HERE.

The contact details MAY be incorrect for the Athlone club as Paul Huges left these shores for New Zealand (or Australia) but I'll send him a link to this thread via facebook and I'm sure someone will contact you.

BJJ would be another great option too, and complimentary to your judo as they're really opposite sides of the same coin.

Try Husaria in Clane, Mariusz is a Black Belt in BJJ and Judo. Not sure if Ivan is still doing Judo there but he is an excellent instructor, he is also a BB in Judo.

    Hi Tracey
As far as I am aware Alan Martin has a Judo club in Maynooth. Alan Martin runs his own club in Garristown but he has a couple of black belts in his association and doted around the country. A guy I know trained in Maynooth with him and as far as I'm aware still does.
