Noisy freewheel

I've just done a clean & grease of the rear wheel axel and cassette. First time I've taken a wheel apart since the old BMX days of yore.

I think the freewheel (7 speed Chimano) ratcheting mechanism seems to be a little noisier when cruising along without peddling. The mild clicky sound just seems a little clickier. How can I get some grease in there to make it quieter?

Other than that. The bike's running great and smooth. Next job is the crank.

What wheels/hubs are they? I've aksiums on my winter bike and the freewheel is very noisy but spins ultra free. The fulcrum Quattro rear wheel on my carbon bike is virtually silent in comparison.

Its a Chimano MF-TZ21. Its spinning fine, I just feel like its noisier since I cleaned it.

Just to put out some potentially scathing info, I cleaned it using white spirit and a toothbrush. Then with warm soapy water.

Just worried the white spirit had gone in where it shouldn't be and washed out some grease.

    Cassette/freehub or freewheel sprocket block?

If sprocket block, just lie the bike down on its side, spin the rear wheel and drip plenty of light oil into the joint between spinning and stationary bit of the block.

If cassette/freehub, you'll need to hunt down the disassembly instructions for your particular wheel. Then strip, clean and oil (usually) and reassemble.

For future reference, if you're cleaning a cassette with solvents, take it off the freehub first.

    Freewheel. Typed cassette by mistake.

Is any oil OK. I have some 3 in 1 multi purpose, should be OK right?

Should do. It may wash out over time so do it regularly.
