Looking for views on 7lb claimers. I'm involved in a very moderate horse who is straight forward but would benefit from apprentice claim. I was thinking of Dawson as he does not ride much but is quiet polished for 7lb (but now that he has won 2 races in the last week he could be harder to get to ride a 33/1 shot) Anyone catch your eye for good or bad reasons. I like Downey but he usually has rides in low grade hcaps.

    R P Downey 7
    Ray Dawson 7
    Gary Phillips 7
    Ross Coakley 7
    Tom Madden 7
    Dylan Robinson 7
    Luke Dempsey 7
    Gary Halpin 7

Not sure Tom would have been my first but not bad. Gary Philips is decent that said all of the lads there are I'd say

If you were racing your horse at Dundalk, then I would certainly be trying to get Downey. For a kid (isn't he 16?), he seems to be a great judge of pace in a race and he tends to know when exactly to push the button on a horse to try and get it the best finish possible. His record (10 wins from 37) speaks for itself.

If you are looking for claimer go and get the best young jockey I have seen in a very long time Colin Keane 3lbs.

On a similar note to stingy there, if you are looking for a top jock, Johnny Murtagh is still the man for the big day.
