Just recently rewatched this and have to say it's such a excellent film, very poetic and brilliantly acted especially by Mathieu Amalric. Based on a true story, Elle France editor Jean-Dominique Bauby, who, in 1995 at the age of 43, suffered a stroke that paralyzed his entire body, except his left eye. Using that eye to blink out his memoir, Bauby eloquently described the aspects of his interior world, from the psychological torment of being trapped inside his body to his imagined stories from lands he'd only visited in his mind.

It's such a inspiring film to watch, I loved director Julian Schnabel first two films Basquiat which although a labour of love form Schnabel about his artist friend Jean-Michel Basquiat, who made in his name in 80's New York art scene only to throw it away with a early death from Heroin. It's flawed film held together by a great performance from a then unknown Jeffrey Wright as Basquiat. His second film Before Night Falls with a then unknown to Hollywood Javier Bardem as Cuban poet and novelist, Reinaldo Arenas is a far better film with a Oscar nominated performance from Bardem.

But The Diving Bell... is his crowning moment with some beautiful and tender moments, the film won a few prizes and was a criticial and commercial success.

If anyone had seen it what do you think of the film?
