    Hi Guys,

I know a lot of people on here love the Octavia's especially the boot space :)
I am planning on going to look at a 2010 VRS 2.0TDI tomorrow and I was hoping maybe you guys could give me some tips on anything I should keep an eye out for, common issues etc.
The car is 2010 reg and has 140k km's on it. (Timing belt should be done I believe but its not mentioned in the ad.)

Is there anything in particular I should be asking about or looking out for?
    Thanks Guys,

I am sure the timing belt interval is 100k miles or 4 years,

Only thing I can think of is front suspension legs, They can go at around 70k on some of them.

I would get a vag mechanic to have a look at it for you to ensure dmf & dpf are ok.

Other than that. Just the usual checks when buying a used car.

Timing belt interval on the 2.0 CR TDi engines is 100k miles (180k km) or 5 years afaik.

Check the shocks for leaks - not uncommon.

Make sure the air con is working correctly - another known fault.

If you have a means to scan it for dpf codes do it. Should be well clear at that mileage.

Keep an ear open for suspension rattles.

Dash and door rattles are normal as the mileage rises.

Make sure it's got a service history and it's been given the right oil - Skoda aren't bad on good will gestures in my experience but only with a FSH.

They need good tyres - not just plenty of thread but a known performance tyre. The throttle is quite abrupt and if it's cheap rubber it will slide all over the road.

I have a '07 one. Lots of annoying electrical issues. Headlight bulb constantly reporting as failed even though it's not. Central locking button in car will lock but not unlock doors. If the passenger front seat is moved forward or back, it often causes an airbag failure warning to come on, has to be reset with computer.

Great car to drive though, plenty of power, great seats, cheapish to run.

That button is a rally cheap fix - about €20 and it clips out, take off the connector and pop the new one back in. Had that issue with a few VAG cars.

Thanks for the replies guys, some great info!!
I rang the garage earlier and they tell me there is a full service history from another garage which doesnt seem to be a skoda dealer! Would this be seen as a major issue? I presume that at the very least it would mean that skoda would not have any obligation to stand over any work carried out by this garage for good will etc.....

Definitely check the front suspension for leaks.

    I have a '10 TDI vRS, I get between 50-55 mpg.

Plenty of power in them so have good brand tyres on it!

    Best of luck!
