After a amazingly successful event last year with 400 cyclists rolling out on year one, we are returning again for 2014. We have moved the date to Saturday May 17th. The two reasons for the move are to try and get better weather and not to clash with the KARE event. A number of improvements have been made on last years event and the 50k route has been changed. It is also now affiliated with Cycling Ireland and the event is proudly been run in association with The Reservoir Cogs Cycling Club from Blessington. A new website is under construction which will allow you to view info about the event and to also register.

Hopefully we will see you all back this year and we'll keep you posted on our progress and the link to the website will be added here as soon as it's ready.

    Thank you !

Great buzz on this last year. The weather on the Sally Gap was a bit iffy so moving the date on a bit is no harm. If the longer route is the same and you're in to climbing give this one a go. Well ran event with all the trimmings at the finish.

We are now open for business. Full details on the routes and registration can be found here, it is online registration only.

A lot of improvements made on last years event and some major sponsors onboard as well.

Well the two gaps certainly showcased their wares today. It's easy forget how extraordinarily beautiful it is up there. Smashing day out.
I just hope ye had some money left over after the food shopping. Organic Cola bottles? Green & Black chocolate? I haven't allowed my cycling waistline a muffin in about 7 years but I couldn't resist one today!
    Mmmm... fattening :)

Brilliant day out (except for the wind). Well done to Reservoir Cogs for a very well organised event. Great food at the food stop. Road surface around Wicklow a lot better than down here in the `real capital`.

Amazing event. Really well done to everyone involved. Top notch work by all the volunteers, and the food was first rate. I was wondering how you made any money out of it!

Fantastic event, thanks to all involved. The food was simply amazing, the marshalling spot on and the weather really helped as well.
The route is designed very well, the food stop in Brockagh comes at a perfect time on the course and sets you up nicely for the big climb of the day up the Wicklow Gap.

have to agree with all the comments above , I did the 100k today , it was so well run

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 690 ✭✭✭dragratchet

yup, such a contrast with last years weather, belter of a day today. was carrying a serious amount of ballast up the wicklow gap after the food stop

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,034 ✭✭✭Amprodude

Wicklow and Sally gaps defintely harder than Molls gap on the ROK.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭Anto12

Cracking day for it.. Many congrats to Reservoir Cogs .. Ye did a fantastic job. From signing in to marshalling - food stop for the 100k was unreal - some amount of drink and grub available - had to have a muffin along with a few bananas.. Only downside was that I got a puncture with 3k to go.... Many thanks to all the volunteers also .. Wind coming down the Sally gap was tough !!! Will be back next year 😀

There were a couple of professional-looking photographers at the side of the road on the 100k. Anyone know where we can expect those pictures to surface? I'm keen to find out how daft I look grimacing my way up the Sally Gap. Damn you paparazzo!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 Blessorider

Thanks all for your comments. We said that we would be bigger and better this year. 600 cyclists took part with over €10,000 been raised on the day.
The pictures are already up on our Facebook page, search

yeah same here cant see anything just my own events

The link works for me. I think it's because I had "joined" the event on FB so if you had not done likewise, this may perhaps be an explanation as to why the link doesn't take you to the event page?

Search the event title "Cycle4DSI - Lap de Gaps" on FB.. Hopefully you may have better luck?

Same here must be due to not previously added event. Can anyone post link to the gallery? Or post on event wall and ask them to host pics externally?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,461 ✭✭✭mcgratheoin

    Great route,
    Great weather,
    Great food stops,

Couldn't ask for more, well done to all involved, my little gang will definitely be back again next year - now sort out those pics for those who didn't add the event!

    **edit**

BTW, If the date on the event was changed or a repeat date for next year added, then anybody who didn't join on FB would be able to see it and join up.

You can also PM me with your name and I'll do a search on facebook and try invite you.

We will also have a selection of images on our cycle4DSI web site during the week.

With over 3000 images taken over the day, please don't ask me to search for one of you ;) It would take me forever lol

For those not on facebook, I will try upload images to a hosting web page for you to view.

Thanks again for the positive feedback guys and girls.

    Stuart.

Stuart, pass on my regards to the girl directing the traffic at the food stop. She was real enthusiastic (and I mean this in a good way), just enough of a lift to get me up the hill.

I must say I never enjoyed a cut of tea, hang sammich and bag of Taytos so much (not to mention all the other goodies). As they say "hunger is great sauce".

    Well done again.

A massive thanks to everyone who turned up on the day in glorious weather.
The final figures were worked out a few days ago and a staggering 634 cyclists took park and in doing so raised just over €14,000 for Down Syndrome Ireland.
Hope you all enjoyed the day and that you were well looked after and well fed !

See you all again in 2015 !!!
