I'm just wondering how long you guys reckon it will be before we see 1gb broadband speeds available for households in Ireland?

    5 years?
    10 years?
    2 years?

2 years for a lucky few, maybe. 5 years is a reasonable timetable for UPC to introduce it as their top profile.

Gigabit needs fibre to the home, Upc use coax from the street cabinet which it's already at it's max so needs a lot of work

I think UPC max is 400Mb, but they've done tests in Switzerland that have exceeded 1Gb. There's a UPC thread around here somewhere and the Boardsies were discussing it.
