Engine Trouble with a Seat Ibiza

Hello, I recently purchased a 2006 Seat Ibiza with a 1.2 12v engine, 140,000 kms on the clock. At first the car seemed perfect and everything was absolutely fine, but after 2000 kms on there are a few worrying issues.

Firstly when the clutch is applied, when the engine warm, the engine would rev up to 4k revs, to stop this I have to floor the clutch and apply the brakes. I have been avoiding the issue by not free wheeling as much as I used to.

Secondly again when the engine is warm and left to idle the engine revs drop low and seems like the car is going to conk.

I have given the engine a good service and this had mad the engine run smoother but has not irradicated the problem.

The engine warning light came on and I got a diagnostic test done that showed a fault with the EGR Valve? I am going to take the EGR out this weekend and clean it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Rgds.

You might also want to clean the throttle body and MAF.
Possibly it could be vaccum leak but at least everything is clean then :D

check the rubber pipes on the throttlebody, i cured a similar complaint on a Ibiza due to a small crack in one of these pipes, if it is cracked, use insulating tape as a temporary fix , i might be wrong, but if i remember correctly the erg valve on the Ibiza is a sealed unit and cannot be opened and also you will have to be prepared to replace coolant as there is a coolant connection attached to the erg valve. I do not remember which size engine on a Ibiza i worked on so yours may be different. Carefully check the vacuum pipes first.
