Are you still on Facebook?

It was enjoyable at the start. All those people we'd lost touch with from our past and even some "networking" with some useful people from our working future.

But now it just seems to be a mixture of "click Like to save a baby/win a car/see yore friend's Ma in a bikini" (ok I made that last one up). I just realised that I havent posted anything on it in days nor have I bothered to even log in to check the newsfeed.

    Are you still on Facebook?

(cue thanks whoring second post of "I was never on it to begin with" - damn hipsters ;))

New Years resolution was to look at it less . Havnt posted anything in a month & don't even check it anymore unless the OH tags me in a post or picture . No loss either....

Yeah but I don't follow 90% of people I'm friends with and only share out information like photo's and comments with a few people. I also figure most people don't want me looking at their stuff so I don't follow them. When I joined back in 2008 it was great because I was in Canada and was nice to keep in touch with people back home. I still post lots of holiday pictures up, but only for family and close friends.

If there's one thing worse than a Facebook addict it's an anti-Facebook hipster: "Oh, you're still on Facebook? I deleted mine months ago. I've freed up so much time to do other important things, like **** to videos of myself ****."

Yes, the 'hide from news feed' on a lot of peoples pages has helped a lot to make it stuff I want to see without insulting people by deleting them for their stupid status'

I find I'm only using it because of the chat feature. All my friends are on it, and about 90% of people I would need to contact have it on their mobile phones. I use it as an e-mail service more than anything else. It's like free texts but with the ability to send files, picture and video across.

How is it hipster to not use it? My friends are by no means hip but my closest friends from back in Ireland don't use it, not one of them. Maybe we're just that little bit too old for it. But then again my Ma is using it and she's 60 now.
Anyway I don't use it because I think people come and go in your life and there's no need to keep in touch with them all, it's just impossible. The real friends/family in your life should be contactable without this tool via traditional methods like phone, email, pigeon etc.

I like Facebook still - I've my newsfeed set up perfectly, where I follow certain pages (I F*cking Love Science, George Takei, pages that I know only post content I find funny, and other ones like Road Trips, which post up some absolute hidden gems) and people that don't annoy me. My extended family also have our own private group, which photos and pieces of news are regularly posted up concerning our family.

But apart from that, it's only really good for their chat feature.

Yeah, I don't see a reason to get rid of it. People I want to keep in touch with are on it, so why would I leave?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭The Pheasant2

I'm fairly young (19) and my friends and I wish it'd just shut down and be gone. However I can't see that happening unfortunately - it's just too useful for organising events/getting into contact with someone you wouldn't know well enough to phone.

It does seem to be dying a death though...nobody makes statuses or uses it for messaging anymore so I dunno maybe with some luck it'll be gone soon.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 218 ✭✭burnhardlanger

    Still on it.

But feel like there ought to be a Dislike button on it.

Maybe that's more related to your age? The only people I know who generally make statuses are young teens, which eventually they grow out of.

Anyway, I'm on FB because it's a necessity for me now - I find vital info about college on there and having a social life is difficult without it. Sad but true.

Out of interest why do you wish it would shut down?

Its replaced group emails for me.
I find all the latest funny videos and all that jazz on my news feed. Its more efficient than goin on other websites to find then when I can let other people waste time finding these videos and posting them for my enjoyment. Its like crowdsourcing, except for cat videos.

But I suppose the main reason I use it coz the phonebook on my smartphone is linked to my facebook profile so when I go to ring somebody, it has their contact picture. Ye, thats seriously the main advantage to me.

Still on it due to friends over in England. Would lose contact with them otherwise.

Face-Book? Isn't that the thing where colleges put up pictures of their students?

Nope. It's an absolute waste of time, and that's saying something, me being a frequent user of After Hours. Complete waste now.

Such an Irish thing to call anyone who doesn't do everything the same way to be a 'hipster'...stupid

Please don't give up on Facebook - Jeremy Kyle's guests won't have anything to quote from. They'll have more time to fit facial hardware and get tattooed, thereby causing a shortage of metal and ink which will really feque up my birthday present list.

P Eth: Whadya think of my tongue thtud. Got it for Chrithmath. Thoooo cool.

I was never on it. I've zero friends to begin with and the thoughts of purposely maintaining some sort of catalogue online of friends just reeks of stamp collecting to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,747 ✭✭✭irishmover

Said I'd never join years ago. Joined a month before I left for Australia in October 2011. Still use it to keep somewhat of a connection to Ireland and people I know.

Don't have too many people on it and block People Who Type Like This or talk pure ****e.

It's a handy way to stay in touch an an addition to Skype but i'd be deleting it if/when I return to Ireland to start a life here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,971 ✭✭✭Holsten

Nope. Just the same stuff over and over, friends with people I don't even like or care about, and the endless stream of photos of every waking moment of people's lives.

I don't use any social media anymore.

I deleted mine right after I left college. I felt I was spending too much time doing nothing on it and wasting my life away.

I miss the casual bitta stalking but I'm glad it's gone! I was sick of b*tches posting what they had for dinner and putting up selfies.

I saw the permissions it was requesting on my Android phone and decided I'm not prepared to use their mobile app anymore.

The list it absolutely ridiculous !

I'm actually getting a bit sick of Android apps and their crazy levels of access. It's putting me right off the whole platform.

Yeah, I find that infuriating too. New update permissions...'wants to access your contacts list, make calls, switch it on and off, turn the camera on, microphone, etc etc' for apps that rarely need it. Makes you worry.
    jimgoose wrote: »

Absolutely not. Most people just don't 'get' Twitter because they join and expect celebrities to start chatting to them. It's like any social network, you need a few people you know to really get started on it.
