Advice on what estate to get...

Hi guys,

I'll be more than likely making a move to an estate this time next year.

So I've plenty of time to do my research and get the right one for me.

I reckon I'll be spending 15k ish on it. From a dealer only as I'll be trading in my own car. Do not want to sell it privately.

I've looked a few so far on Carzone.

Passat is the first one that came to mind but I dont like the old shape at all to be honest and the new one is out of price range from what I can tell. Might be different come Jan 2015 though I suppose.

I dont want a skoda. I know it'll be mentioned but not for me thanks.

So the ones I've looked at are the likes of the Ford Mondeo, Mazda 6, Toyota Avensis and Opel Insignia.

I currently drive a 6 but its a petrol and a saloon hence moving to diesel and estate, need the room and doing more milage these days.

The two that I'm leaning towards at the moment are the Avensis and the Insignia.. two examples below.

Quite like the Insignia tbh but not sure about what the engines like or the car in general for that matter.

Volvo V70 if you can find one within budget.

Doubt I'd get a 5 series within my price range without a serious amount of milage. Would I be right in saying they'd be rear wheel drive as well? More out of curiousity than anything else. Wouldnt put me off one.

Carzone has some '08 to '10 A4 Estates under 15k, a few '06 to '08 520s as well.
BMW's (I'm not talking about the Minis) are either RWD or 4WD (there are rumours of a FWD coming out soon /shudder).

I half thought about the 159 estate alright. Not a lot of them about. They are gorgeous though.

I drove an Alfa GT for a couple of years before my Mazda 6 so I am most definately an Alfa fan. Its one I'll consider alright.

Both nice as well. Like the Alfa the Accord seems to be few and far between at that price range.

I have a thing about Audi's, BMW's, Merc's. I just wouldnt want one unless it was auto.

Tbh I'd love the estate to be auto in general but again not a lot of them about at that price point and really cant/dont want to spend more.

If you were open to selling your old car privately then it might be worth going to the UK, you would definitely have a better choice in auto estates over there.

I really like that model of accord estate that Bazz linked above. Red or blue or the gunmetal / titanium grey rather than light grey though.

The 159 as an estate is not the most practical as it has a high boot lip to the floor and the boot is not great in size. Other than that I would be driving one now

We have an Insignia estate out on lease and comfortable on the road, but the boot is smaller than you think

Accord/5 series/A6/A4/3 series/V70 all good bets

Maybe add the Subaru Legacy to your list?
