    Please help. Provisionally booked here. Jus wondering does any1 have any info if u got married here. Did u get reduction per head or extras thrown in. Heard they are v v hard to negotiate with!!!!

    depends what rate and package you got, some hotels build in wiggle room to their rates expecting you to haggle and then you feel like you got a bargain, many hotels prices are rock bottom when they give you a price.

    unlikely.
    There'll always be room to shave something off. It'd be a bad business practice to offer an unmoveable price at first go in this climate, and with such money changing hands. Any hotel / business with any business sense would account for room to bargain with.
    Think about it... if I (as a business) offered a price, and customer came back and I reduced by 10% which I had planned, I'm on a winner as both parties feel they got a good deal.
    Even better if the customer just accepts my first price!


    If someone wasn't willing to move by at least 10%, I'd just walk away.

    Let say a shop sells a can of coke at 1 euro, you ask will you come down a bit in price, shop say yes hows 90 cents, you buy it, you think you got a bargain. Shop is gambling that youll be happy with the bargain and wont shop anywhere else.

    Next door sells the same can of coke for 80c, the minimum theyll sell it for to make a profit. You ask will you come down a bit, they say no, if you buy it you don't think you got a bargain but you did when compare it to shop 1.

    The second shop is basing their marketing strategy on pricing rather than how much you feel like you got a bargain.

    Would you walk away from shop 2 to buy in shop 1?



    I ask hotels this when Im in there, some say theres wiggle room, some say there isnt. But just because there isnt, doesnt mean youre not getting a bargain (shop 2). and just like shop 1 above, just because there is wiggle room, doesnt mean you are getting one.

    I did marketing for a couple of years a long time ago, Im sure theres terms for those strategies, I cant remember though. :o

    I understand your point clint, but for a wedding venue, many people (brides especially!) mightn't see the venues as directly comparable, unlike a can of coke.
    Also, they're most likely working on a budget, and if they can factor in where they got a discount, they may stretch it for the discounted price if it comes in at or above that amount, thinking it's going to be a higher standard.

    Never ask 'is there room to haggle?' and be blunt and say you'll give them X, knowing you've factored into a healthy discount, with them to agree maybe halfway.

    As I said, due to the money changing hands and the variables / opportunities for profit margins, I'd be wary of any venue, or indeed business, that said there's absolutely no room to haggle.

    Lets agree theres different marketing strategys and its only over time the different hotels can find out whats best for them, I certainly wouldnt put someone off booking because the venue doesnt haggle.

    Theres a hotel near enfield (wont mention name) that employs this strategy, their manager who says repeatedly his price is his price and he reckons what he quotes is fair. I played there in november, usually a slow month, I think he had 23 weddings.

    I do appreciate theres a likability factor with hotels but you can generally compare 1 hotel with another in the same price range for the same package . I like that mullingar park hotel that OP is talking about, thats a big room when its open, its pretty popular, if theyre using the "our price is our price" strategy, Id say its because it works for them. Ask them how many weddings theyre doing the month youre booking OP, that will give you an indication how popular it is.
