I live and work on Dominick Street, right in the city centre.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like I can get anything faster than a 24Mb line in this area at the moment (I last checked a couple of months ago), although the Claddagh area, which is very close can get 120Mb Broadband+

Do you have any insight as to when such a service will be available to the city centre in Galway

This is relevant to a lot of businesses.

How about 4g. Should I have any hopes with that?
    Thanks

    According to Eircom's map, April.

No, 4G isn't even in the same league as 24Mbit DSL.

    Ok thanks.
Would that mean I would need to switch to Eircom so to avail of fast broadband first? Or would Magnet and UPC be using the same facilities?
(From the same time Eircom makes use of them, or a couple of months later)

Having got a call from UPC last year, they seemed to be saying they were rolling out their own infrastructure, so I assumed that was the new way and that every ISP would be laying down their own lines.

UPC is completely different. Its Cable, the rest are DSL(Phone lines).

When Eircom put in the cabs Eircom and Vodafone go live at the same time. Sky currently arent doing VDSL and Magnet use their own kit AFAIK so that's up to them.
