Are you having trouble with other streaming websites ?
What are your internet speeds like?Test them at speedtest.net

It might be that your internet speed isn't fast enough for a streaming service like netflix. That could be for assorted reasons and would most likely be fixable.

No speeds are fine and I'm having no trouble with anything else as I say www.netflix .com wont even come up

The connection has timed out is what message I get.I have looked at my firewall and router but if it was firewall why would it work at all which it does maybe 1 out of 10 times on my tv.

I had a look at those links for you. They mostly suggest your own internet connection is at fault, wifi not strong enough or connection not fast enough etc. Try turning off all your devices and unplugging your modem for one minute, then restart the modem and your tablet/pc and see if it works. Also the advice is try it on another internet connection, either cellular or a friends wifi.

After those checks if it doesn't right itself netflix say contact your ISP or the manufacturer or your modem.
Not the helpful troubleshooting guide . :/

This sounds more like a DNS server issue. Open a command prompt, and run "nslookup www.bbc.co.uk" and show us the results.

Further to Whimsical's postings, it does sound likely that Sky are blocking Netflix etc from your broadband connection.

I don't stream any film or TV (my broadband speeds being obviously not suitable), but once, when trying to connect to the BBC programme guide/radio section, I found the whole BBC website had suddenly become inaccessible, as had all the other TV sites I had bookmarked. Looking at the error messages, it was because the sites were "news/media, television". Some service or other (I can't remember what) divides the web into categories, so that countries/ISPs can block a whole type of site in one go, and this is one of those categories. (It doesn't seem to include YouTube or newspaper sites, as I could still access those).

So I asked my ISP, and it turned out that one or more other people in our area on the lower-cost sub, were streaming film/TV on it, which kept crashing the whole townland's network. The only way our provider could fix it was to block that category.
Have you tried asking the Sky Broadband people about it? If it turns out that you do need an upgrade, maybe it would be affordable? Perhaps their publicity material was a bit ambiguous (I find it so). The block could even turn out to be a mistake (such things can happen!), or just a stopgap measure.

Be prepared to be tenacious with Sky if necessary. I found it a real headbanging exercise getting an answer bearing any relation to a simple question I asked (though maybe it's easier for account holders - I was only a prospective customer).

Hi, I have a similar issue with UPC. I have an account for offside streams and streamboxtv but i cant view any of the programs when i log in at home on my laptop of iphone. I can log in and view fine from work or when i go 3g on my phone. I am UPC 50mg but i am starting to think that they must be blocking the service. Has anyone encountered something similar?

You probably haven't heard of them; Antenna, a local fixed-wireless provider. Legally, anyway, as my contract's with them (though for some reason, as far as whatismyip is concerned my ISP's Fastcom).
But I was only illustrating a possible cause of the problem, and that when the basic diagnostic things don't fix it, asking the ISP sometimes saves spending further time.

I thought I'd heard of ISPs blocking certain types of downloads, where the phone lines (or contracts) aren't up to them? (But I'm no expert & might have read it wrong)
