I recently changed the brake pads on my 06 avensis and noticed that the pads did not hit all of the disc as seen in pics below , I got Mintex pads in my local motor factors the original were Bosch .

Just wondering if this is the norm with spurious brake pads and will the eventually wear in ? Thanks .

The rusted outer circle on the rotor will eat the pad until it looks like the old one.
This isn't that uncommon, there was a similar thread here recently on same issue.

If there isn't a problem with braking I'd let it slide. Best option of course is to resurface or get new rotors.

How does the pad area compare to the originals?

Do the pads fit in snugly in the caliper?

In spurious pads, there is often a tapered bit at the outer and inner edge, presumably to allow for bedding in of the lip on the disc so providing its the same both sides, I wouldn't be overly worried about it. See how it goes as they bed in.

The problem there is with the disc not the pads. If you measure the thickness of that disc you will most likely find that it is worn below the minimum recommended thickness so ideally you should have replaced both discs and pads.

Having said that the pads will eventually wear in properly and make contact with all of the disc so I wouldn't be too worried about it if I were you.

Pads fit in nice and snug you can the pad area compared to original in the pic I uploaded .just to add because of less surface area contact compared to origanal pad they don't bite as much .
